Slowly getting back to normal!

07-12-2020From Fr. Antony's DeskFr. John Barbella

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of seeing my mother and having brunch with her. We were at my sister and brother in law’s home, where my niece was visiting. It was only the second time I saw my mom since the ‘stay at home’ orders were issued due to the coronavirus.

It was nice to see some family – even if it was just a couple of us. I’m sure many of you are having similar experiences as things begin getting back to normal, however slowly.

As we get back to normal at Church, I want to take a moment to really thank those who have been helping make this happen. The ushers who are helping people find their reserved seats and those who clean up after each Mass are offering our parish a truly indispensable service at this time. So are all of you who call ahead to reserve a spot at Mass. I know this is a nuisance for some of you, but it’s helping us ensure everyone’s safety. For this, I thank you!

I might add that anyone who is willing and able to help clean up between Masses should call the parish office. The people doing this could use a hand – especially at certain Masses. If you are attending that Mass and can lend a hand, we are truly grateful.

One of the things we are getting back to slowly in our parish is Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Due to the small size of our chapel – and its lack of windows – we are currently having Adoration in the Church, Monday – Friday, from 2 PM – 4 PM. My hope is to gradually expand that time as conditions permit.

Having Adoration in the Church means having to schedule it around Masses, Funerals, Confessions, and Baptisms, which is one reason for the limited schedule. My hope is that we can soon begin having Adoration from after the 12:10 PM Mass until 4 PM, perhaps next month. I’ll keep you posted!

Another thing to get back to is the Miraculous Medal Novena which is prayed in our Church on Monday evenings. It is now preceded by a Mass at 7 PM. This is the Mass that is offered for all those intentions enrolled in the Mass Association. The names of those enrolled are read during that Mass. I’m glad to see that many people are taking advantage of the opportunity to enroll people in the Mass Association. It is a good option for having Mass offered for the souls of our loved ones.

Last Sunday I had the pleasure of giving First Holy Communion to Jadan Rojas, whose family is moving soon. He was scheduled to receive his First Communion this past spring – along with the rest the second graders from our school and CCD program. I was happy to be able to give him his First Communion before he moved – and look forward to celebrating First Communion with the other children and their families as things get back to normal!

Please keep me in your prayers – at least one Hail Mary a day if you can. I really appreciate your prayers and promise to keep you in all of mine. It is a wonderful thing to be able to pray for each other, and so share in the blessings God pours out in answer to our prayers. Let’s also keep praying for the sick, those caring for them, and especially for peace.

Have a great week!

Fr. John
