Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation
Dear Parents and Confirmation students,
To help everyone prepare for Confirmation, we have established a Confirmation place on our website at spsj.org. It contains all the forms that you will need, as well as the schedule of Confirmation classes.
As always, I am happy to help anyone who needs help getting ready for Confirmation. I will explain the process fully at the Confirmation Parent/Candidate meeting on September 13 at 10:00am in Mercy Hall. We will be sure to practice social distancing and keep everyone as safe as possible! We will also tape this meeting and put it on our parish website for those who prefer to attend that way.
I am planning to teach the Tuesday Confirmation class this year, and look forward to doing so. Jonathan Hayes, an experienced Confirmation catechist who has been with us for several years, will be the main teacher on Sunday mornings. Both of us are very enthusiastic about helping your son or daughter prepare to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit in Confirmation this year.
If anyone is concerned about attending class in person, I will be happy to email my weekly lesson to them. Please just provide me with the student’s name and an accurate parent’s email address. I will send the lesson for you to read at home, with some questions you can easily complete and email back to me. This will keep you up to date with lessons and on target to receive Confirmation.
I am also happy to inform you that Escarlen Duran will serve as our parish Confirmation coordinator. She brings many gifts to our program, one of which is her fluency in both English and Spanish! I will introduce her to everyone at the Confirmation meeting on September 13.
While we do not yet have a date for Confirmation from the bishop’s office, we will share it with you as soon as we do. It will probably be sometime in February, as it has been the last few years.
In the meantime, please feel free to call me (908-454-0112 ext. 407) with any questions you may have about Confirmation. It will be my pleasure to speak with you about your son or daughters Confirmation.
Finally, if for some reason classes have to be cancelled, we will be sure to contact you with instructions about make ups or online options. We are hoping this does not happen, but want you to know we will be ready if it does.
Please know that I am praying for you, your child, and all those who are preparing for Confirmation. It is a great and holy moment in the life of any Catholic, and the whole parish family!
God Bless You,
