33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Family!

I write to you about three things today. First is about the Committees: I am grateful to Deacon Enock and all the members of Liturgical Committee for recruiting new members for all ministries that are under this committee. A special thanks to all the new volunteers for these ministries.

With the new volunteers the committee will have three training sessions and formally commissioned during Mass. It is important to note that the strength of a parish is her strength of Eucharistic participation. You are still welcome to be part of these ministries: Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers, Sacristans and Greeters.

At the end of the month Deacon Larry will initiate the Sacramental Committee’s new member recruitment and will follow it up with training sessions for all ministries. As you can recall, these ministries were already here, we are just organizing them for our better practices.

And the second is about the Sunday Readings: The readings continue to focus on the ‘end things’ as we come to the close of the liturgical year C. A new liturgical year will start with the Advent Season (November 27). With the ‘end things (Eschatology) in mind, it is important also to reflect on God’s judgment. Prophet Malachi foresees the Day on which God will judge everyone. “When he comes at the end of time to judge the living and the dead, the glorious Christ will reveal the secret disposition of hearts and will render to each man according to his works and according to his acceptance or refusal of grace” (CCC 682). As the readings are a bit scary, what helps you deal with scary times?

And the third is about Parish Finances: It is important that the parishioners have some idea of the parish finances. We have published the financial statement on the Capital Campaign. We thank you for your generosity and love for the parish. It was a huge effort to undertake such a big project, thanks to Fr. John Barbella and the Finance Committee for their hard work and guidance. Now that the Capital Campaign is officially over, we have begun this year’s Pastor’s Appeal.

Once again, I am humbled by your generosity and support, we are off to a good start. We are already at the verge of 40k. I promise you to put this appeal money to the most needed areas of repair and renovations.

Fr. Antony
