Dear Family!

This Sunday is the Divine Mercy Sunday. We had a great Triduum, and it was a joy to see so many come back to Church to worship and thank God. Starting from Palm Sunday to the Easter celebrations, I thank all the volunteers in the Decorations Committee, liturgical committees, ministries serving the poor, and all of you for your active participation and dedication.

The death of Pope Francis is a huge loss for our Mother Church. At this time of anxiety, we need to stand together with our bishop in praying for the Pope’s soul and pray for the conclave. Pope Francis, known for being the ‘pope of the people’, his contribution to safeguarding our planet and nature, reaching out to the whole of humanity in all humility and simplicity, will be greatly missed.

Saint John Paul II preaching about the Divine Mercy in 1998 said, “the risen Christ calls the Apostles to be messengers and ministers of his merciful love and from that day, from generation to generation, this proclamation of hope has resounded in the heart of the Church for every believer. Blessed are those who open their hearts to divine mercy! The Lord’s merciful love precedes and accompanies every act of evangelization and enriches it with extraordinary fruits of conversion and spiritual renewal.”

‘Peace is the gift par excellence of the crucified and Risen Christ’ as Saint John Paul taught us and this is the result of the victory of Jesus’ love over sin and death. “In offering himself as an immaculate victim of expiation on the altar of the Cross, he poured out on humanity the beneficial flow of Divine Mercy. Jesus, therefore, is our peace because he is the perfect manifestation of Divine Mercy. In the human heart, which is an abyss always exposed to the temptation of evil, he infuses God’s merciful love.” (St. John Paul II, April 2004)

Parish First Communion and Confirmation Masses: It is our tradition that on the day of Parish Feast (May 3rd is the Feast of the Apostles Philip and James) our children will receive their first holy communion at 11am Mass. Since it is a large class we have planned two Saturday services ( May 3rd and May 10th at 11am Mass). Our Confirmation mass will be on Wednesday, May 7th at 5pm. These are our children, so everyone is invited to come for these celebrations and pray for them and their families.

May 2nd - A day of Prayer for Pope Francis: May 2nd is first Friday in May. We will have a special prayer service and Mass for Pope Francis. The holy hour will start at 6pm and at 7pm there will be a special mass praying for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis. All are welcome!

Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20), the Jubilee Mass Series for Hispanic Youth and Young Adults (last Friday of each month) and the Multicultural Fair (May 10).

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. We are looking for volunteers to be part of the leadership team. All are welcome!

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in April & May)
On April 25-27 we just celebrated the Jubilee for Teenagers and on April 28-29 we celebrate the Jubilee of People with Disabilities. In May we have five Jubilees: May 1-4 Jubilee of Workers; 4-5 Jubilee of Entrepreneurs; 10-11 Jubilee of Bands & Popular Music; 12-14 Jubilee of the Eastern Churches; 16-17 Jubilee of Confraternities.

Parish Survey on Mass Cancellation: The Parish Pastoral Council, after carefully looking at the survey and statistics, have consulted with me regarding the cancellation of 7am. The majority (90+ families out of 127) would prefer to keep the 9am mass as it concerns the children. It will go into effect on January 1, 2026.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. The roof repair has begun in the Mercy Hall Building. As promised we have completed initial repairs to the roof. We will restart the permanent renovation in the spring. In the meantime, we will be acquiring all the restroom and flooring materials for the 3rd floor. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

Domingo De La Divina Misericordia

¡Querida familia!

Este domingo es el Domingo de la Divina Misericordia. Tuvimos un gran Triduo y fue una alegría ver a tantos regresar a la Iglesia para adorar y dar gracias a Dios. Desde el Domingo de Ramos hasta las celebraciones de Pascua, agradezco a todos los voluntarios del Comité de Decoraciones, los comités litúrgicos, los ministerios que atienden a los pobres y a todos ustedes por su activa participación y dedicación.

El fallecimiento del Papa Francisco es una gran pérdida para nuestra Iglesia Madre. En estos momentos de angustia, necesitamos unirnos a nuestro obispo para orar por el alma del Papa y por el cónclave. Se extrañará enormemente al Papa Francisco, conocido por ser el “Papa del pueblo”, y su contribución a la protección de nuestro planeta y de la naturaleza, llegando a toda la humanidad con toda humildad y sencillez.

San Juan Pablo II, predicando sobre la Divina Misericordia en 1998, dijo: «Cristo resucitado llama a los Apóstoles a ser mensajeros y ministros de su amor misericordioso, y desde aquel día, de generación en generación, este anuncio de esperanza ha resonado en el corazón de la Iglesia para cada creyente. ¡Bienaventurados los que abren su corazón a la divina misericordia! El amor misericordioso del Señor precede y acompaña cada acto de evangelización, enriqueciéndolo con extraordinarios frutos de conversión y renovación espiritual».

«La paz es el don por excelencia de Cristo crucificado y resucitado», como nos enseñó san Juan Pablo II, y es el resultado de la victoria del amor de Jesús sobre el pecado y la muerte. «Al ofrecerse como víctima inmaculada de expiación en el altar de la cruz, derramó sobre la humanidad el caudal benéfico de la Divina Misericordia. Jesús, por tanto, es nuestra paz porque es la manifestación perfecta de la Divina Misericordia. En el corazón humano, un abismo siempre expuesto a la tentación del mal infunde el amor misericordioso de Dios». (San Juan Pablo II, abril de 2004)

Misas de Primera Comunión y Confirmación en la Parroquia: Es tradición que el día de la festividad parroquial (el 3 de mayo es la festividad de los apóstoles Felipe y Santiago), nuestros niños reciban su primera comunión en la misa de las 11:00 am. Dado que la clase es numerosa, hemos planeado dos servicios los sábados (el 3 y el 10 de mayo, en misas de las 11:00 am). Nuestra misa de Confirmación será el miércoles 7 de mayo a las 5:00 pm. Estos son nuestros niños, por lo que todos están invitados a venir a estas celebraciones y orar por ellos y sus familias.

2 de mayo - Día de oración por el Papa Francisco: El 2 de mayo es el primer viernes de mayo. Tendremos un servicio de oración y una misa especial en honor del Papa Francisco. La hora santa comenzará a las 6:00 pm y a las 7:00 pm habrá una misa especial para orar por el descanso eterno del Papa Francisco. ¡Bienvenidos todos!

Peregrinación Jubilar Diocesana al Santuario Nacional en Washington, DC, (20 de septiembre), la Serie de Misas Jubilar para Jóvenes y Adultos Jóvenes Hispanos (último viernes de cada mes) y la Feria Multicultural (10 de mayo).

150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. Buscamos voluntarios para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Año Jubilar 2025: (Jubileos en abril y mayo)
Del 25 al 27 de abril celebramos el Jubileo de los Adolescentes, y del 28 al 29 de abril celebramos el Jubileo de las Personas con Discapacidad. En mayo, celebramos cinco Jubileos: del 1 al 4 de mayo, el Jubileo de los Trabajadores; del 4 al 5, el Jubileo de los Emprendedores; del 10 al 11, el Jubileo de las Bandas y la Música Popular; del 12 al 14, el Jubileo de las Iglesias Orientales; y del 16 al 17, el Jubileo de las Cofradías.

Encuesta Parroquial sobre la Cancelación de Misas: El Consejo Pastoral Parroquial, tras analizar detenidamente la encuesta y las estadísticas, me ha consultado sobre la cancelación de la misa de las 7:00 am. La mayoría (más de 90 familias de 127) preferiría mantener la misa de las 9:00 am por el bien de los niños. Entrará en vigor el 1 de enero de 2026.

Apelación del Pastor: Les estaré eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. Ya comenzó la reparación del techo del edificio Mercy Hall. Como prometimos, hemos completado las reparaciones iniciales. Reanudaremos la renovación permanente en primavera. Mientras tanto, adquiriremos todos los materiales para los baños y el piso del tercer piso. Les pido que consideren con oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Párroco este año para que las ideas que hemos planeado se implementen a tiempo para nuestros niños y nuestra parroquia.
