Dear Family!

As the Holy Week nears, I remind you of your personal preparation and also of our preparation as a parish to witness the Paschal Mysteries taking deep roots within us. We have advertised and announced to the parish of the LENTEN MISSION for this year (Next Saturday, April 12th). I humbly urge you to make every attempt to attend and be inspired. Your very presence is a great boost of faith to your brother and sister who is struggling in his/her faith journey.

The readings focus on our growth in spiritual life and the means to achieve it. Especially the gospel gives us hints to maturity in discipleship by focusing on avoiding rash judgment on people.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church 2478 teaches, “To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way: Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another’s statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. And if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved. (St. Ignatius of Loyola, Spiritual Exercises, 22.)

The Church demands the tempering of justice with mercy. St. Augustine is a master in explaining how mercy is embodied in the person of Jesus. “The two of them were left on their own, the wretched woman and Mercy … gently he asked her, ‘Has no one condemned you?’ She replies, ‘No one, Lord.’ And he says, ‘Neither do I condemn you; I who perhaps you feared would punish you because in me you have found no sin.’ Lord, can it be that you favor sinners? Assuredly not. See what follows: ‘Go and sin no more.’ Therefore, the Lord also condemned sin, but not the woman” (St. Augustine, In Ioann. Evang., 33, 5-6). God never tires in forgiving us, are we tired of seeking his mercy?

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, preliminary preparations need to happen. On April 6th we will have a general meeting at Mercy Hall after the 9am Mass. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. All are welcome!

Diocesan programs in the near future: Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20), the Jubilee Mass Series for Hispanic Youth and Young Adults (last Friday of each month). and the Multicultural Fair (May 10).

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in March and April 2025)
We have three important Jubilees coming up in April. April 5-6 we celebrate the Jubilee for the Sick & the World of Health; April 25-27 we celebrate the Jubilee for Teenagers and on April 28-29 the Jubilee of People with Disabilities.

Parish Survey on Mass Cancellation: The Parish Pastoral Council, after carefully looking at the survey and statistics, have consulted with me regarding the cancellation of 7am. The majority (90+ families out of 127) would prefer to keep the 9am mass as it concerns the children. It will go into effect on January 1, 2026.

Lenten Retreat for our Parish: We are grateful to Father Luke Mary Fletcher and Brother Pius from the Blue Army Shrine to preach this year’s Lenten Recollection for our parish. All are welcome. Please see the last page for more information.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. The roof repair has begun in the Mercy Hall Building. As promised we have completed initial repairs to the roof. We will restart the permanent renovation in the spring. In the meantime, we will be acquiring all the restroom and flooring materials for the 3rd floor. I ask you to prayerfully consider helping us with the Pastor’s Appeal this year so that our planned ideas could be implemented in time for our children and for our parish.

5º Domingo de Cuaresma

¡Querida familia!

Al acercarse la Semana Santa, les recuerdo su preparación personal y también la nuestra como parroquia para presenciar cómo los Misterios Pascuales se arraigan profundamente en nosotros. Hemos anunciado a la parroquia la MISIÓN DE CUARESMA de este año (el próximo sábado 12 de abril). Les insto humildemente a que se esfuercen por asistir y se inspiren. Su sola presencia es un gran impulso de fe para sus hermanos y hermanas que están luchando en su camino de fe.

Las lecturas se centran en nuestro crecimiento espiritual y los medios para alcanzarlo. En particular, el Evangelio nos da pistas para la madurez en el discipulado, enfocándose en evitar juzgar precipitadamente a las personas.

El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, 2478, enseña: «Para evitar un juicio temerario, cada uno debe procurar interpretar, en la medida de lo posible, los pensamientos, palabras y obras de su prójimo de forma favorable: Todo buen cristiano debe estar más dispuesto a dar una interpretación favorable a la declaración de otro que a condenarla. Pero si no puede hacerlo, pregunté cómo la entiende el otro. Y si este la entiende mal, que lo corrija con amor. Si esto no basta, que el cristiano busque todos los medios adecuados para que el otro la interprete correctamente y se salve.» (San Ignacio de Loyola, Ejercicios Espirituales, 22).

La Iglesia exige que la justicia se modere con la misericordia. San Agustín es un maestro al explicar cómo la misericordia se encarna en la persona de Jesús. «Los dos se quedaron solos, la desdichada y Misericordia… le preguntó con dulzura: “¿Nadie te ha condenado?”. Ella respondió: “Nadie, Señor”. Y él dice: “Yo tampoco te condeno; yo, a quien quizá temías que te castigara, porque en mí no has encontrado pecado”. Señor, ¿es posible que favorezcas a los pecadores? ¡Claro que no! Mira lo que sigue: “Vete y no peques más”. Por lo tanto, el Señor también condenó el pecado, pero no a la mujer» (San Agustín, In Ioann. Evang., 33, 5-6). Dios nunca se cansa de perdonarnos; ¿nos cansamos nosotros de buscar su misericordia?

150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. El 6 de abril tendremos una reunión general en Mercy Hall después de la misa de las 9 am. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Programas diocesanos en el futuro cercano: Peregrinación Jubilar Diocesana al Santuario Nacional en Washington, DC, (20 de septiembre), la Serie de Misas Jubilar para Jóvenes y Adultos Jóvenes Hispanos (último viernes de cada mes), el y la Feria Multicultural (10 de mayo).

Año Jubilar 2025: (Jubileos en abril de 2025)
En abril se celebran tres Jubileo importantes. Del 5 al 6 de abril, el Jubileo de los Enfermos y del Mundo de la Salud; del 25 al 27 de abril, el Jubileo de los Adolescentes; y del 28 al 29 de abril, el Jubileo de las Personas con Discapacidad.

Encuesta Parroquial sobre la Cancelación de Misas: El Consejo Pastoral Parroquial, tras analizar detenidamente la encuesta y las estadísticas, me ha consultado sobre la cancelación de la misa de las 7:00 am. La mayoría (más de 90 familias de 127) preferiría mantener la misa de las 9:00 am por el bien de los niños. Entrará en vigor el 1 de enero de 2026.

Retiro de Cuaresma para nuestra parroquia: Agradecemos al Padre Luke Mary Fletcher y al Hermano Pius del Santuario del Ejército Azul por predicar el Retiro Cuaresmal de este año en nuestra parroquia. Todos son bienvenidos. Para más información, consulten la última página.

Apelación del Pastor: Les estaré eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. Ya comenzó la reparación del techo del edificio Mercy Hall. Como prometimos, hemos completado las reparaciones iniciales. Reanudaremos la renovación permanente en primavera. Mientras tanto, adquiriremos todos los materiales para los baños y el piso del tercer piso. Les pido que consideren con oración ayudarnos con la Campaña del Párroco este año para que las ideas que hemos planeado se implementen a tiempo para nuestros niños y nuestra parroquia.
