Dear Family!

This Sunday we reflect on Christian Charity as Jesus challenges us with the New Commandment which is also the fundamental mission and ministry of the Church. We understand that Christian love goes beyond self and our comfort zones. Jesus wanted to break the barriers and hurdles that the Jews were facing: The Old Testament restricted love of neighbor to themselves (Leviticus 19).

The love that Paul and Barnabas carried and preached is the commandment of love of Jesus. This love is universal. The one who loves his/her neighbor must be interested in those things which concern that neighbor’s most important purpose in life - his/her eternal salvation. The energy with which Paul and Barnabas evangelized is this universal love. Pope Francis used to call the Church as a love story which is built on love and sharing. Our universal love compels us to care for the other, as the church teaches us “Feed the people dying of hunger, because if you do not feed them you are killing them.” (Vatican II)

It is a well-known devotion to consecrate the month of May to our Blessed Mother, as May is the most beautiful and florescent month of the whole year. This devotion has long prevailed throughout Christendom. Pope Pius VII, in order to animate all Christian people to the practice of a devotion so tender and agreeable to the most blessed Virgin and calculated to be of such great spiritual benefit to themselves, granted, by a Rescript of the Segretaria of the Memorials, March 21, 1815 to all in the Catholic world, who either in public or in private should honor the Blessed Virgin with some special homage or devout prayers, or other virtuous practices. It was wonderful to have our First Holy Communicants crown our Blessed Mother on Sunday, May 4th.

Parish First Communion and Confirmation Masses: This year we had two Saturday services for First Holy Communion (May 3rd and May 10th at 11am Mass). The Mass for Confirmation was on Wednesday, May 7th at 5pm.

We want to thank Escarlen Duran, Deacon Rob, the Catechists and the teachers who prepared all the students who received their sacraments this year. Our sincere thanks to all our Faith Formation team for their service to our parish community. We continue to keep all our families in our prayers and support them by sharing our faith with them.

May 20th – 1700th Anniversary of the Ecumenical Council of Nicaea
Convened in 325 A.D., the Council of Nicaea was the first to unite the entire Christian world. It was there, after much debate, that the universal creed was first proclaimed. The council fathers affirmed that the Son is consubstantial with the Father, declaring that there is no difference in divinity between God the Father and God the Son and confirming the Catholic belief in the Trinity. To mark the occasion, the Vatican has released a document titled “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.”

Ordinations at the Cathedral: Thomas Pluhar & James Prumos will be ordained deacon on May 24th, at 10:30am. Deacon Jan Magcawas and Deacon Jerome Ocampo will be ordained priests on May 31, at 10:30am. Please remember them in your daily prayers.

Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20)

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. We are looking for volunteers to be part of the leadership team. All are welcome!

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in May 2025)
There are four Jubilees left for the month of May: the 10th & 11 th the Jubilee of Bands & Popular Music; the 12th thru 14 th Jubilee of the Eastern Churches; the 16th & 17 th Jubilee of Confraternities. The last will be from May 30th to June 1st - Jubilee of Families, Grandparents and the Elderly.

¡Querida familia!

Este domingo reflexionamos sobre la caridad cristiana mientras Jesús nos desafía con el Nuevo Mandamiento, que es también la misión y el ministerio fundamentales de la Iglesia. Entendemos que el amor cristiano va más allá de uno mismo y de nuestra comodidad. Jesús quiso romper las barreras y obstáculos que enfrentaban los judíos: el Antiguo Testamento limitaba el amor al prójimo a sí mismos (Levítico 19).

El amor que Pablo y Bernabé llevaron y predicaron es el mandamiento del amor de Jesús. Este amor es universal. Quien ama a su prójimo debe interesarse por lo que concierne a su propósito más importante en la vida: su salvación eterna. La energía con la que Pablo y Bernabé evangelizaron es un amor universal. El Papa Francisco solía describir a la Iglesia como una historia de amor construida sobre el amor y el compartir. Nuestro amor universal nos impulsa a cuidar al prójimo, como nos enseña la Iglesia: «Alimentar a los que mueren de hambre, porque si no los alimentan, los están matando» (Vaticano II).

Es una devoción muy conocida consagrar el mes de mayo a nuestra Santísima Madre, ya que mayo es el mes más hermoso y floreciente del año. Esta devoción ha prevalecido durante mucho tiempo en toda la cristiandad. El Papa Pío VII, para animar a todo el pueblo cristiano a practicar una devoción tan tierna y agradable a la Santísima Virgen, y que se estima de gran beneficio espiritual para ellos, concedió, mediante un Rescripto de la Secretaria de los Memoriales, el 21 de marzo de 1815, a todos los católicos que, tanto en público como en privado, honraran a la Santísima Virgen con algún homenaje especial, oraciones devotas u otras prácticas virtuosas. Fue maravilloso que nuestros primeros comulgantes coronaran a nuestra Santísima Madre el domingo 4 de mayo.

Misas de Primera Comunión y Confirmación en la Parroquia: Este año tuvimos dos servicios sabatinos de Primera Comunión (el 3 y el 10 de mayo, en la Misa de las 11:00 am). La Misa de Confirmación fue el miércoles 7 de mayo a las 5:00 pm. Queremos agradecer a Escarlen Duran, al diácono Rob, a los catequistas y a los maestros que prepararon a todos los alumnos que recibieron los sacramentos este año. Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todo nuestro equipo de Formación en la Fe por su servicio a nuestra comunidad parroquial. Seguimos orando por todas nuestras familias y las apoyamos compartiendo nuestra fe con ellas.

20 de mayo – 1700 Aniversario del Concilio Ecuménico de Nicea
Convocado en el año 325 d. C., el Concilio de Nicea fue el primero en unir a todo el mundo cristiano. Fue allí, tras un largo debate, donde se proclamó por primera vez el credo universal. Los padres conciliares afirmaron que el Hijo es consustancial con el Padre, declarando que no hay diferencia de divinidad entre Dios Padre y Dios Hijo, y confirmando la creencia católica en la Trinidad. Para conmemorar la ocasión, el Vaticano publicó un documento titulado «Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios, Salvador».

Peregrinación Jubilar Diocesana al Santuario Nacional en Washington, DC, (20 de septiembre)

El sábado 21 de junio, de 10:00am a 12:00pm, el Centro Pastoral presentará este programa: la Mesa Redonda del Ministerio para Personas Mayores. Este evento incluye: Sin Caídas, Solo Diversión, Bingocize en Vivo, Demostración de Prevención de Caídas e Intercambio de Ideas Ministeriales. Es gratuito. 150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. Buscamos voluntarios para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Quedan cuatro Jubileos para el mes de mayo: el 10 y el 11, el Jubileo de las Bandas y la Música Popular; del 12 al 14, el Jubileo de las Iglesias Orientales; y del 16 al 17, el Jubileo de las Cofradías. El último será del 30 de mayo al 1 de junio, el Jubileo de las Familias, los Abuelos y los Ancianos.
