Dear Family!

The Fourth Sunday of Easter is traditionally known as ‘The Good Shepherd Sunday’. All three years (A, B, & C) we read from the same chapter (John 10). The sacred writers of the Old Testament beautifully presented God (Holy Name of God) as the Good Shepherd and in the sacred writers of the New Testament presented Jesus as the Good Shepherd since they perfectly understood and believed that Jesus is the incarnation of God the Father, revealing to us His identity by what he does as the Good Shepherd.

In the same way ‘the sheep’ or ‘the flock’ is the land and people of Israel in the Old Testament and ‘The Church’ in the New Testament.

In the Christian sense, one becomes good by being a good sheep. The Son learns from the Father (John 5:19- 20). Jesus learnt how to be a good sheep by the shepherding love of the Father. Jesus teaches us the secrets of being and growing into a sheep of his own heart. We learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, the Son does not operate independently of the Father. In order to shepherd our family, our community and our society, we need to model our lives fully depending on God and be convinced that without God we can do nothing.

We also learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, the Son is in constant touch with the Father. What motivates and encourages us to depend on God is our constant touch with God through prayer especially our love for the Eucharist. It is the Eucharist that unifies us with Jesus most intimately. We also learn from Jesus that as a good sheep, Jesus does what he discerns the Father is doing. We learn everything that is good from God: our parenting style, carrying out our responsibilities of being a good Christian, good citizen and a good neighbor. Our goodness comes from God alone. We are good because God loves us.

We share in the priesthood of Jesus Christ, so we also share in the ‘Shepherding Role’ of Jesus Christ. In order to fulfill this great obligation to shepherd people we need to be good sheep like Jesus. As we continue to pray for our children who just received Confirmation and Holy Communion, let us continue to grow as sheep of our Good Shepherd in order that we may reflect His goodness as Shepherds of our family.

Parish First Communion and Confirmation Masses: This year we had two Saturday services for First Holy Communion (May 3rd and May 10th at 11am Mass). The Mass for Confirmation was on Wednesday, May 7th at 5pm.

We want to thank Escarlen Duran, Deacon Rob, Catechists, and the teachers who prepared all students who received their sacraments this year. Our sincere thanks to all our Faith Formation team for their service to our parish community. We continue to keep all our families in our prayers and support them by sharing our faith with them.

May 7th - Prayer for the Conclave and the New Pope: The Conclave started on May 7th. The last Conclave took just 28 hours to elect Pope Francis so we will have Special intentions for the Conclave on May 8th and May 9th. When I am writing this article for the Bulletin we still haven’t started the Conclave. There will also be a Special Mass after the election of Pope.

May 20th – 1700th Anniversary of the Ecumenical Council of Nicaea
Convened in 325 A.D., the Council of Nicaea was the first to unite the entire Christian world. It was there, after much debate, that the universal creed was first proclaimed. The council fathers affirmed that the Son is consubstantial with the Father, declaring that there is no difference in divinity between God the Father and God the Son and confirming the Catholic belief in the Trinity. To mark the occasion, the Vatican has released a document titled “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.”

Diocesan events: Diocesan Jubilee Pilgrimage to the National Shrine in Washington, DC, (Sept. 20), the Jubilee Mass Series for Hispanic Youth and Young Adults (last Friday of each month), and the Multicultural Fair (May 10).

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. We need to form a leadership team to plan and execute. We are looking for volunteers to be part of the leadership team. All are welcome!

Jubilee Year 2025: (Jubilees in May 2025)
There are five Jubilees left in May: May 4th & 5th the Jubilee of Entrepreneurs; 10th & 11th the Jubilee of Bands & Popular Music; 12th & 14th the Jubilee of the Eastern Churches; 16th & 17th the Jubilee of Confraternities. The last will be from May 30th to June 1st – the Jubilee of Families, Grandparents and the Elderly.

4º Domingo de Pascua

Querida familia!

El Cuarto Domingo de Pascua se conoce tradicionalmente como el «Domingo del Buen Pastor». Durante los tres años (A, B y C) leemos el mismo capítulo (Juan 10). Los escritores sagrados del Antiguo Testamento presentaron con gran belleza a Dios (Santo Nombre de Dios) como el Buen Pastor, y los escritores sagrados del Nuevo Testamento presentaron a Jesús como el Buen Pastor, pues comprendían y creían perfectamente que Jesús es la encarnación de Dios Padre, quien nos revela su identidad mediante su labor como Buen Pastor. De igual manera, «las ovejas» o «el rebaño» representan la tierra y el pueblo de Israel en el Antiguo Testamento, y «la Iglesia» en el Nuevo Testamento.

En el sentido cristiano, uno se vuelve bueno siendo una buena oveja. El Hijo aprende del Padre (Juan 5:19-20). Jesús aprendió a ser una buena oveja por el amor pastoreado del Padre. Jesús nos enseña los secretos para ser y crecer como ovejas de su propio corazón. Aprendemos de Jesús que, como buena oveja, el Hijo no actúa independientemente del Padre. Para pastorear a nuestra familia, nuestra comunidad y nuestra sociedad, necesitamos modelar nuestras vidas dependiendo plenamente de Dios y estar convencidos de que sin Él nada podemos hacer.

También aprendemos de Jesús que, como buena oveja, el Hijo está en constante contacto con el Padre. Lo que nos motiva y anima a depender de Dios es nuestro contacto constante con Él a través de la oración, especialmente nuestro amor por la Eucaristía. Es la Eucaristía la que nos une más íntimamente con Jesús. También aprendemos de Jesús que, como buena oveja, Jesús hace lo que percibe que el Padre hace. Aprendemos todo lo bueno de Dios: nuestro estilo de crianza, el cumplimiento de nuestras responsabilidades de ser buenos cristianos, buenos ciudadanos y buenos vecinos. Nuestra bondad proviene solo de Dios. Somos buenos porque Dios nos ama.

Compartimos el sacerdocio de Jesucristo, por lo que también compartimos su rol de pastor. Para cumplir con esta gran responsabilidad de pastorear a la gente, necesitamos ser buenas ovejas como Jesús. Mientras seguimos orando por nuestros hijos que acaban de recibir la Confirmación y la Santa Comunión, sigamos creciendo como ovejas de nuestro Buen Pastor para reflejar su bondad como pastores de nuestra familia.

Misas de Primera Comunión y Confirmación en la Parroquia: Este año tuvimos dos servicios de Primera Comunión los sábados (3 y 10 de mayo, misa de las 11:00 am). La misa de Confirmación fue el miércoles 7 de mayo a las 5:00 pm. Queremos agradecer a Escarlen Duran, al diácono Rob, a los catequistas y a los maestros que prepararon a todos los alumnos que recibieron los sacramentos este año. Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a todo nuestro equipo de Formación en la Fe por su servicio a nuestra comunidad parroquial. Seguimos orando por todas nuestras familias y las apoyamos compartiendo nuestra fe con ellas.

7 de mayo - Oración por el Cónclave y el Nuevo Papa: El Cónclave comenzó el 7 de mayo. El último Cónclave solo tardó 28 horas en elegir al Papa Francisco, por lo que tendremos intenciones especiales para el Cónclave del 8 y 9 de mayo. Al momento de escribir este artículo para el boletín, aún no ha comenzado el Cónclave. También habrá una Misa Especial después de la elección del Papa.

20 de mayo – 1700 aniversario del Concilio Ecuménico de Nicea
Convocado en el año 325 d. C., el Concilio de Nicea fue el primero en unir a todo el mundo cristiano. Fue allí, tras un largo debate, donde se proclamó por primera vez el credo universal. Los padres conciliares afirmaron que el Hijo es consustancial con el Padre, declarando que no hay diferencia de divinidad entre Dios Padre y Dios Hijo, y confirmando la creencia católica en la Trinidad. Para conmemorar la ocasión, el Vaticano publicó un documento titulado "Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios, Salvador".

Eventos diocesanos: Peregrinación Jubilar Diocesana al Santuario Nacional en Washington, DC, (20 de septiembre), la Serie de Misas Jubilar para Jóvenes y Adultos Jóvenes Hispanos (último viernes de cada mes) y la Feria Multicultural (10 de mayo).

150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg
A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Necesitamos formar un equipo de liderazgo para planificar y ejecutar. Buscamos voluntarios para formar parte del equipo de liderazgo. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Año Jubilar 2025: (Jubileos mayo)
Quedan cinco Jubileos en mayo: el 4 y 5 de mayo, el Jubileo de los Emprendedores; el 10 y 11, el Jubileo de las Bandas y la Música Popular; el 12 y 14, el Jubileo de las Iglesias Orientales; el 16 y 17, el Jubileo de las Cofradías. El último será del 30 de mayo al 1 de junio: el Jubileo de las Familias, los Abuelos y los Mayores.
