Dear Family!

It was wonderful to see all the pets you brought in for a blessing last Sunday. We thank Father Pat for preparing the prayers for the Blessing of Animals. The OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) will begin on Sunday, October 19th, and it is our responsibility to journey with them and pray for them. The Faith Formation classes have started, and our children depend on our prayers especially the children who are preparing for Holy Communion and Confirmation.

The Reading this Sunday focus on gratitude, in particular the expression of gratitude God expects from us. In an Interview in 2013, Pope Francis said, ‘The thing the church needs most today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful; it needs nearness, proximity. I see the church as a field hospital after battle. It is useless to ask a seriously injured person if he has high cholesterol and about the level of his blood sugars! You have to heal his wounds. Then we can talk about everything else.”

As generosity is a virtue leaned from God himself, we as Christians, people of God, are given the mandate to love and serve like our Lord and Master Jesus himself. That is our standard with which we minister ‘Love like Jesus does’. God distributes favors with absolute freedom and generosity. Naaman the general had to learn that we can never return God for the blessings we received from God - The one thing necessary at this stage is grateful acknowledgment.

Both the ‘Good’ Samaritans are found in the Gospel of Luke. None of them had returned to give praise to God except the stranger. Jesus paid the ransom to redeem us so that we may have life and that life in abundance. This way we were adopted as children of God. Who are the strangers? One could still be part of the family and still be strangers in the eyes of God. We are part of the family of God.

The Pope has appointed Bishop James Checchio as the Coadjutor Archbishop of New Orleans: A ‘coadjutor’ bishop is appointed to assist the diocesan bishop until his retirement. When the Archbishop of New Orleans retires and the Holy Father accepts his resignation, Bishop Checchio automatically becomes the Archbishop of New Orleans. In the meantime, Bishop Checchio becomes the Administrator of the Diocese of Metuchen. A Mass of Farewell for Bishop Checchio will be on November 1st, 11am Mass at the Cathedral. Please keep our Bishop in our prayers!

October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary: Marian spirituality on October 12th centers around two major events in 2025: the closing Mass of the Jubilee of Marian Spirituality in Rome, presided over by the Pope, and the feast day of Our Lady of the Pillar, a significant Marian title. The Jubilee is a special event celebrating devotion to Mary, while the feast day commemorates her appearance to Saint James. October 19th there will be a Canonization Mass for 7 blessed. October 19th is also Mission Sunday. Please read our Bishop’s letter on Mission Sunday under the memorials & feasts section of the Bulletin.

150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg (Sun, Dec 7th 11am)
As the anniversary approaches near, there are preliminary preparations that need to happen. Please save the date: December 7th Sunday, Bishop will celebrate a special mass at 11am to mark the event. All are welcome!

Mercy Hall Building Updates: Please pray for the boiler project. It might cost us around $70,000 to $80,000. The Church doors need some proper care and repair. We have been getting different quotes for these projects. Please consider donating to these projects. When you send in the check made out to our Parish, please mention that it is for the Boiler or Church Doors. Thank you for your generosity!

28º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

¡Querida familia!

Fue maravilloso ver a todas las mascotas que trajeron para bendecirlas el domingo pasado. Agradecemos al Padre Pat por preparar las oraciones para la Bendición de los Animales. La OCIA (Orden de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos) comenzará el domingo 19 de octubre, y es nuestra responsabilidad acompañarlos y orar por ellos. Las clases de Formación en la Fe ya comenzaron, y nuestros niños dependen de nuestras oraciones, especialmente los que se preparan para la Sagrada Comunión y la Confirmación.

La lectura de este domingo se centra en la gratitud, en particular en la expresión de gratitud que Dios espera de nosotros. En una entrevista de 2013, el papa Francisco dijo: «Lo que más necesita la Iglesia hoy es la capacidad de sanar las heridas y reconfortar los corazones de los fieles; necesita cercanía, proximidad. Veo la Iglesia como un hospital de campaña después de una batalla. ¡Es inútil preguntarle a un herido grave si tiene el colesterol alto y cuál es su nivel de azúcar! Hay que curar sus heridas. Luego podemos hablar de todo lo demás».

Como la generosidad es una virtud que proviene de Dios mismo, nosotros, como cristianos, pueblo de Dios, recibimos el mandato de amar y servir como nuestro Señor y Maestro Jesús. Ese es nuestro estándar con el que ministramos: «Amar como Jesús lo hace». Dios distribuye favores con absoluta libertad y generosidad. Naamán, el general, tuvo que aprender que nunca podemos corresponder a Dios por las bendiciones que recibimos de Él. Lo único necesario en esta etapa es el agradecimiento.

Ambos "buenos" samaritanos aparecen en el Evangelio de Lucas. Ninguno de ellos había regresado para alabar a Dios, excepto el forastero. Jesús pagó el rescate para redimirnos y que tuviéramos vida, y vida en abundancia. De esta manera, fuimos adoptados como hijos de Dios. ¿Quiénes son los forasteros? Uno puede seguir siendo parte de la familia y seguir siendo forastero a los ojos de Dios. Somos parte de la familia de Dios.

El Papa ha nombrado al obispo James Checchio arzobispo coadjutor de Nueva Orleans. Se nombra a un obispo coadjutor para asistir al obispo diocesano hasta su jubilación. Cuando el arzobispo de Nueva Orleans se jubile y el Santo Padre acepte su renuncia, el obispo Checchio se convierte automáticamente en arzobispo de Nueva Orleans. Mientras tanto, el obispo Checchio se convierte en el administrador de la Diócesis de Metuchen. La misa de despedida del obispo Checchio se celebrará el 1 de noviembre a las 11:00 am en la Catedral. ¡Por favor, mantengan a nuestro obispo en nuestras oraciones!

Octubre está dedicado al Santísimo Rosario: La espiritualidad mariana del 12 de octubre se centra en dos eventos importantes en 2025: la Misa de clausura del Jubileo de la Espiritualidad Mariana en Roma, presidida por el Papa, y la festividad de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, una importante advocación mariana. El Jubileo es un evento especial que celebra la devoción a María, mientras que la festividad conmemora su aparición a Santiago Apóstol. El 19 de octubre se celebrará la Misa de Canonización de siete beatos. El 19 de octubre es el Domingo de las Misiones. Misa de Confirmación en nuestra parroquia: Apunten en su calendario: la misa de Confirmación es el 7 de mayo de 2026, a las 5pm.

A medida que se acerca el aniversario, es necesario realizar preparativos preliminares. Por favor, reserven la fecha: el domingo 7 de diciembre, el Obispo celebrará una misa especial a las 11:00 am para conmemorar el evento. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Las puertas de la iglesia necesitan un buen mantenimiento y reparación. Hemos recibido diferentes presupuestos para estos proyectos. Por favor, consideren donar.
