Dear Family!

As the third and Rose candle being lit and witness the Rose vestments at the Eucharist this Sunday, we are reminded that our Savior is near. We pray in the opening antiphon, ‘Gaudete in Domino Semper” (Rejoice in the Lord always). The Rose color as some of the liturgists explain that it reminds us of the color of the sky at the very brink of morning when the sun is just beginning to come up. Jesus is the Sun that dispels darkness around us!

The readings reflect the same sentiments - the sentiments of joy and encouragement. We rejoice by accepting Jesus’ healing and preaching ministry as the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecy of Isaiah. This brings us to a realization that our minds and hearts are to be filled with the joy of God coming into our lives to make us whole and holy. When we wait for someone we love deeply, our hearts and minds are filled with the thoughts of the joy the person brings when he/she visits us.

Saint James reminds us in the second reading today that this time of waiting (Advent) calls for patience, enduring difficulties and not complaining, especially about one another, but our waiting is not in idleness but in doing good. The examples of this blessed life that Jesus gives us are John the Baptist and our Blessed Mother.

Jesus praises John highly that he is the divinely appointed messenger of the Messiah and the greatest man ‘born of women’. To be embraced by our Blessed Mother is to be loved dearly by Jesus himself. Advent is also a time to reflect Mary’s preparation to give birth to Jesus. Mary’s joy is the joy of the universal church. We long for Jesus like Mary; we hope like Mary; we anticipate like Mary in restlessly long for the coming of Jesus.

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. Thank you for all you donations! As announced at all masses how important it is to get Mercy Hall ready for the winter, we need to get the Boiler fixed. It is our primary concern. As shown in the pictures for the Pastor’s Appeal this year, the doors of the church need to be repaired by a professional company. Please prayerfully consider donating to these projects if you have not done so!

Thanks to our Finance Council
I extend my gratitude to our Finance Council for all their sacrifices and time invested in meetings and planning. Special thanks to Ray DePillo, Cary Giacalone and William Casey for their years of service in this capacity. We wish them well for their future endeavors. We will have a new time at the beginning of 2026. Please pray for these men and thank them for their service to our community!

Special thanks to Fr. Jay Toborowsky and the Hospitality Committee: Fr. Jay, our Diocesan Administrator celebrated a Special Mass at 11am last Sunday to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg. In the absence of bishop, I thank Fr. Jay for accepting our invitation and celebrated the mass for us. We remember all our priests, nuns, principals, teachers, parents and all the parishioners who have contributed to the growth of Catholic education in our town all these years! Special thanks to all the volunteers for the success of this event.

Thanks to our Fundraising Committee
I thank our Principal, the staff and students who participated in the Special Mass with our Diocesan Administrator last Sunday and the school choir that sang during the ‘Breakfast with Santa’ Fundraiser. My heartfelt thanks to the SPSJ Fundraising Committee that volunteered for the success of this event!

Good News!
The boiler situation at Mercy Hall finally gets a good news. We have the contractor and hopefully we will get heat in the building before the New Year, thanks to all your prayers and support! Pastor’s Appeal this year started well and hopefully we can achieve our goal this year so that the boiler and the Church door repairs are fully paid off. Please continue to pray and support Pastor’s Appeal. Thank you!

Tercer Domingo de Adviento

¡Querida familia!

Al encenderse la tercera vela rosa y presenciar las vestiduras rosas en la Eucaristía de este domingo, recordamos que nuestro Salvador está cerca. Oramos en la antífona inicial: «Gaudete in Domino Semper» (Alegraos siempre en el Señor). El color rosa, como explican algunos liturgistas, nos recuerda el color del cielo al amanecer, cuando el sol apenas comienza a salir. ¡Jesús es el Sol que disipa la oscuridad que nos rodea!

Las lecturas reflejan los mismos sentimientos: alegría y aliento. Nos regocijamos al aceptar el ministerio de sanación y predicación de Jesús como el cumplimiento de la profecía mesiánica de Isaías. Esto nos lleva a comprender que nuestra mente y nuestro corazón deben llenarse del gozo de Dios que entra en nuestras vidas para hacernos completos y santos. Cuando esperamos a alguien a quien amamos profundamente, nuestra mente y nuestro corazón se llenan de la alegría que esa persona nos trae cuando nos visita.

Santiago nos recuerda en la segunda lectura de hoy que este tiempo de espera (Adviento) exige paciencia, soportar las dificultades y no quejarse, especialmente los unos de los otros. Pero nuestra espera no es en la ociosidad, sino en hacer el bien. Los ejemplos de esta vida bendita que Jesús nos da son Juan el Bautista y nuestra Santísima Madre.

Jesús elogia efusivamente a Juan por ser el mensajero divinamente designado del Mesías y el hombre más grande «nacido de mujer». Ser abrazado por nuestra Santísima Madre es ser amado entrañablemente por el mismo Jesús. El Adviento también es un tiempo para reflexionar sobre la preparación de María para dar a luz a Jesús. La alegría de María es la alegría de la Iglesia universal. Anhelamos a Jesús como María; esperamos como María; anhelamos con ansia la venida de Jesús.

Apelación del Pastor: Les estaré eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. ¡Gracias por todas sus donaciones! Como se anunció en todas las misas, es fundamental preparar el Salón de la Misericordia para el invierno. Necesitamos reparar la caldera. Es nuestra principal preocupación. Como se muestra en las fotos de la Campaña Pastoral de este año, las puertas de la iglesia necesitan ser reparadas por una empresa profesional. Si aún no lo han hecho, consideren con devoción donar a estos proyectos, pongan su donación en un sobre separado marcado “Campana Pastoral Boiler 2025”.

Gracias a nuestro Consejo de Finanzas: Agradezco a nuestro Consejo de Finanzas por todos sus sacrificios y el tiempo invertido en las reuniones y la planificación. Agradezco especialmente a Ray DePillo, Cary Giacalone y William Casey por sus años de servicio en este cargo. Les deseamos lo mejor en sus proyectos futuros. Tendremos un nuevo tiempo a principios de 2026. ¡Por favor, oren por estos feligreses y agradézcanle su servicio a nuestra comunidad!

Agradecimiento especial al Padre Jay Toborowsky y al Comité de Hospitalidad: El Padre Jay, nuestro Administrador Diocesano, celebró una Misa Especial a las 11:00 am del domingo pasado para conmemorar el 150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg. En ausencia del obispo, agradezco al Padre Jay por aceptar nuestra invitación y celebrar la misa por nosotros. Recordamos a todos nuestros sacerdotes, monjas, directores, maestros, padres y feligreses que han contribuido al crecimiento de la educación católica en nuestra ciudad durante todos estos años. Agradecemos especialmente a todos los voluntarios por el éxito de este evento.

Gracias a nuestro Comité de Recaudación de Fondos: Agradezco a nuestra directora, al personal y a los estudiantes que participaron en la Misa Especial con nuestro Administrador Diocesano el domingo pasado y al coro escolar que cantó durante el evento de recaudación de fondos "Desayuno con Santa". ¡Mi más sincero agradecimiento al Comité de Recaudación de Fondos de SPSJ que se ofreció como voluntario para el éxito de este evento!

¡Buenas noticias!
Finalmente tenemos buenas noticias del problema de la calefacción en Mercy Hall. Ya tenemos al contratista y esperamos tener calefacción en el edificio antes de Año Nuevo, ¡gracias a todas sus oraciones y apoyo! La Campaña Pastoral de este año comenzó bien y esperamos lograr nuestra meta este año para que la reparación de la caldera y la puerta de la iglesia esté completamente pagada. Por favor, sigan orando y apoyando la Campaña Pastoral. ¡Gracias!
