Dear Family!

We had a busy week in celebrating Our Lady of Guadalupe festival, thanks to all the organizers and volunteers. Our Mother has done everything for us, and we are blessed to get every opportunity to venerate her especially under the title of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Mother of the Americas. (I’m writing this note on Dec. 11th). In 4 days, we will be celebrating Our Lord’s Nativity! Though it is so soon to wish you all Merry Christmas, the festive joy is already being felt!

Christmas traditions are very important to us, especially the Christmas decorations like the Nativity scene and the Christmas Tree. Pope Francis used to say, “The Nativity scene is a genuine way of communicating the gospel, in a world that sometimes seems to be afraid of remembering what Christmas really is and eliminates Christian symbols, only to retain those drawn from a banal, commercial imagination.”

Tradition has it that Saint Francis enlisted real people in his Nativity pageant in 1223, but the tradition lived on to become the creches we are used to seeing today. I urge all of you to dedicate a special place for your own nativity scene at home and keep this tradition alive and encourage your children to do the same as Pope Francis willed, “that this custom will never be lost and that, whatever it has fallen into disuse, it can be rediscovered and revived.”

The readings point to the Messianic prophesy, “Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel.” We are the beholders of this prophecy and the Creche is pointing us to this message. By decorating your home with these strong Christian symbols, we in turn communicate the Gospel message that God is in our midst - Emmanuel.

May your preparations be guided by the Holy Spirit as you relive and revive the long standing Christian traditions! Please find the prayer for blessing your Nativity scene at home within the bulletin.

Pastor’s Appeal - Thanks to all of you for your efforts: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. Thank you for all your donations! Mercy Hall boiler situation has been a huge concern this year as we have been repairing the boiler for so many years and reached a point where we couldn’t do it anymore. The contract has been signed and with your support and prayers we could have begun this project! Hopefully, we can complete it before Christmas! As part of this year’s Pastor’s Appeal, the second and the last project for this year is the Church Doors. The contract was signed last week, and we hope to complete repairing the church doors in the early part of January 2026. You have made this possible for the parish with your prayers and donations! Thank you!

Conclusion of the Jubilee Year
The Jubilee Year 2025 comes to an end in dioceses around the world on the Feast of the Holy Family (December 28, 2025), but in Rome, it will not end until January 6, 2026 with the closing of the Holy Doors at St. Peter’s Basilica, that is the way Pope Francis mentioned it in his Decree. (The Jubilee also began earlier in Rome).

Giving Tree Ministry and Organizers of the Nativity Show at School: We thank all the hard work done by the Giving Tree Ministry in collecting and distributing Christmas gifts to children especially the less fortunate in our community and beyond. Our kids have done a great job as they always do at the Nativity Show, thanks to all the organizers, teachers and parents who were involved in preparing and supporting them! Thank you!

Cuarto Domingo de Adviento

¡Querida familia!

Tuvimos una semana muy ajetreada celebrando la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, gracias a todos los organizadores y voluntarios. Nuestra Madre lo ha hecho todo por nosotros, y nos sentimos bendecidos por tener la oportunidad de venerarla, especialmente bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, la Madre de las Américas. (Escribo esta nota el 11 de diciembre). ¡En cuatro días celebraremos la Natividad de Nuestro Señor! Aunque es un poco pronto para desearles a todos una Feliz Navidad, ¡ya se siente la alegría de las fiestas!

Las tradiciones navideñas son muy importantes para nosotros, especialmente la decoración navideña, como el belén y el árbol de Navidad. El Papa Francisco solía decir: «El belén es una forma auténtica de comunicar el Evangelio, en un mundo que a veces parece tener miedo de recordar lo que realmente significa la Navidad y elimina los símbolos cristianos, conservando solo aquellos que provienen de una imaginación banal y comercial».

Según la tradición, San Francisco de Asís incluyó a personas reales en su representación del Nacimiento en 1223, y esta tradición perduró hasta convertirse en los belenes que conocemos hoy en día. Los animo a todos a dedicar un lugar especial en sus hogares para su propio belén y a mantener viva esta tradición, animando a sus hijos a hacer lo mismo, tal como deseaba el Papa Francisco: «que esta costumbre nunca se pierda y que, si en algún momento ha caído en desuso, pueda ser redescubierta y revitalizada».

Las lecturas apuntan a la profecía mesiánica: «He aquí, una virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, y su nombre será Emanuel». Nosotros somos testigos de esta profecía, y el pesebre nos recuerda este mensaje. Al decorar nuestro hogar con estos importantes símbolos cristianos, transmitimos el mensaje del Evangelio: Dios está entre nosotros, Emanuel.

Que el Espíritu Santo guíe sus preparaciones mientras reviven y celebran las antiguas tradiciones cristianas. Encontrarán la oración para bendecir su belén en casa en la última página del boletín.

Apelación del Pastor, Gracias a todos por vuestro esfuerzo: Les estaré eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. ¡Gracias por todas sus donaciones! La situación de la calefacción de Mercy Hall ha sido motivo de gran preocupación este año, ya que la hemos estado reparando durante muchos años y llegamos a un punto en el que ya no era posible seguir haciéndolo. ¡El contrato ya está firmado y, gracias a su apoyo y oraciones, hemos podido comenzar este proyecto! ¡Esperamos poder completarlo antes de Navidad! Como parte de la Campaña del Párroco de este año, el segundo y último proyecto es la reparación de las puertas de la iglesia. El contrato se firmó la semana pasada y esperamos completar la reparación a principios de enero de 2026. ¡Ustedes han hecho esto posible para la parroquia con sus oraciones y donaciones! ¡Muchas gracias!

Conclusión del Año Jubilar
El Año Jubilar 2025 finaliza en las diócesis de todo el mundo en la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia (28 de diciembre de 2025), pero en Roma no concluirá hasta el 6 de enero de 2026 con el cierre de las Puertas Santas en la Basílica de San Pedro, tal como lo mencionó el Papa Francisco en su Decreto. (El Jubileo también comenzó antes en Roma).

Ministerio del Árbol de la Generosidad y organizadores del Belén escolar: Agradecemos el gran trabajo realizado por el Ministerio del Árbol de la Generosidad en la recolección y distribución de regalos de Navidad para los niños, especialmente para los menos afortunados de nuestra comunidad y alrededores. Nuestros alumnos hicieron un trabajo excelente, como siempre, en la representación del Belén. ¡Muchas gracias a todos los organizadores, maestros y padres que participaron en su preparación y apoyo! ¡Gracias!
