Dear Family!

In the season of Advent, larger than life personalities like Isaiah and John the Baptist certainly draw our attention to living a holy season but most importantly it is Our Mother who always plays the most important role in leading us to the heart of Jesus. The Church begins with the year with the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God and end the year with Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Mother of Americas.

Of the three oracles of concerting a future king in the book of Isaiah (1st in the 7th chapter & the 2nd in the 9th chapter) the third is presented to us in the first reading (11th chapter). The prophesy of the spirit of God with sevenfold gifts are associated with the advent of the Messiah. All four gospels mention the ministry of John of the Baptist - his message was clear - a call to repentance, thus return to the Lord.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church 712 teaches us that “the characteristics of the awaited Messiah begin to appear in the "Book of Emmanuel" ("Isaiah said this when he saw his glory," speaking of Christ), especially in the first two verses of Isaiah 11 “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.”

Teaching about John the Baptist, the Church clarifies, “John the Baptist is "more than a prophet.” In him, the Holy Spirit concludes his speaking through the prophets. John completes the cycle of prophets begun by Elijah. He proclaims the imminence of the consolation of Israel; he is the "voice" of the Consoler who is coming. As the Spirit of truth will also do, John "came to bear witness to the light." In John's sight, the Spirit thus brings to completion the careful search of the prophets and fulfills the longing of the angels. "He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain; this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God. . . . Behold, the Lamb of God.” (CCC 719)

Pastor’s Appeal
I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. Thank you for all you donations! As announced at all masses about how important it is to get Mercy Hall ready for the winter, we need to get the Boiler fixed. It is our primary concern. As shown in the pictures for the Pastor’s Appeal for this year, the doors of the church need to be repaired by a professional company as well. Please prayerfully consider donating to these projects if you have not done so!

Thanks to our Finance Council
I extend my gratitude to our Finance Council for all their sacrifices and time invested in meetings and planning. Special thanks to Ray DePillo, Cary Giacalone and William Casey for their years of service in this capacity. We wish them well for their future endeavors. We will have a new time at the beginning of 2026. Please pray for these men and thank them for their service to our community!

Our Diocesan Administrator Fr. Jay Toborowsky celebrates our 150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg
Fr. Jay, our Diocesan Administrator will be celebrating a Special Mass at 11am this Sunday to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Catholic Education in Phillipsburg. In the absence of a bishop, I thank Fr. Jay for accepting our invitation and celebrating the mass for us. We remember all our priests, nuns, principals, teachers, parents and all the parishioners who have contributed to the growth of Catholic education in our town all these years!

December 8th - Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception falls on Monday. It is a day of Obligation.

Advent Penance Service on Tuesday, December 9th
I invite all the parents to bring the children for the Penance Service with confessions for Faith Formation Families at 4:30pm IN THE CHURCH. At 7pm there will be the Parish Penance Service to all! Please come with your families. There will be around six priests to hear confessions.

Segundo Domingo de Adviento

¡Querida familia!

En el tiempo de Adviento, figuras trascendentales como Isaías y Juan el Bautista nos inspiran a vivir una época de santidad, pero sobre todo, es nuestra Madre quien siempre desempeña el papel más importante al guiarnos al corazón de Jesús. La Iglesia inicia el año con la Solemnidad de María, Madre de Dios, y lo termina con la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción y la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Madre de las Américas.

De los tres oráculos que anuncian la llegada del futuro rey en el libro de Isaías (el primero en el capítulo 7 y el segundo en el capítulo 9), el tercero se nos presenta en la primera lectura (capítulo 11). La profecía del Espíritu de Dios con sus siete dones se asocia con la llegada del Mesías. Los cuatro evangelios mencionan el ministerio de Juan el Bautista; su mensaje fue claro: un llamado al arrepentimiento y, por lo tanto, al retorno al Señor.

El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica 712 nos enseña que «las características del Mesías esperado comienzan a aparecer en el «Libro del Emmanuel» («Isaías dijo esto cuando vio su gloria», refiriéndose a Cristo), especialmente en los dos primeros versículos de Isaías 11: «Saldrá un retoño del tronco de Jesé, y un vástago brotará de sus raíces. Y reposará sobre él el Espíritu del Señor: espíritu de sabiduría y de inteligencia, espíritu de consejo y de poder, espíritu de conocimiento y de temor del Señor».

Al enseñar sobre Juan el Bautista, la Iglesia aclara: «Juan el Bautista es más que un profeta». En él, el Espíritu Santo concluye su predicación a través de los profetas. Juan completa el ciclo de profetas iniciado por Elías. Proclama la inminencia de la consolación de Israel; es la «voz» del Consolador que viene. Como también lo hará el Espíritu de la verdad, Juan «vino a dar testimonio de la luz». Ante Juan, el Espíritu culmina así la búsqueda minuciosa de los profetas y cumple el anhelo de los ángeles. «Aquel sobre quien veas al Espíritu descender y permanecer, ése es el que bautiza con el Espíritu Santo. Y yo lo he visto y he dado testimonio de que éste es el Hijo de Dios... He aquí el Cordero de Dios» (CIC 719).

Apelación del Pastor: Les estaré eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. ¡Gracias por todas sus donaciones! Como se anunció en todas las misas, es fundamental preparar el Salón de la Misericordia para el invierno. Necesitamos reparar la caldera. Es nuestra principal preocupación. Como se muestra en las fotos de la Campaña Pastoral de este año, las puertas de la iglesia necesitan ser reparadas por una empresa profesional. Si aún no lo han hecho, consideren con devoción donar a estos proyectos.

Gracias a nuestro Consejo de Finanzas: Agradezco a nuestro Consejo de Finanzas por todos sus sacrificios y el tiempo invertido en las reuniones y la planificación. Agradezco especialmente a Ray DePillo, Cary Giacalone y William Casey por sus años de servicio en este cargo. Les deseamos lo mejor en sus proyectos futuros. Tendremos un nuevo tiempo a principios de 2026. ¡Por favor, oren por estos feligreses y agradézcanle su servicio a nuestra comunidad!

Nuestro Administrador Diocesano, el P. Jay Toborowsky, celebra su 150 aniversario
El Padre Jay, nuestro Administrador Diocesano, celebrará una Misa Especial a las 11:00 am este domingo para conmemorar el 150.º Aniversario de la Educación Católica en Phillipsburg. En ausencia del obispo, agradezco al Padre Jay por aceptar nuestra invitación y celebrar la misa por nosotros. Recordamos a todos nuestros sacerdotes, monjas, directores, maestros, padres y feligreses que han contribuido al crecimiento de la educación católica en nuestra ciudad durante todos estos años.

8 de diciembre - La Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción cae en lunes. Es día de precepto.

Servicio de Penitencia de Adviento el martes 9 de diciembre
Invito a todos los padres a traer a sus hijos al Servicio de Penitencia con confesiones para las Familias de Formación en la Fe a las 4:30 pm en la iglesia. A las 7 pm habrá un Servicio de Penitencia Parroquial para todos. Por favor, vengan con sus familias. Habrá unos seis sacerdotes para confesar.
