The Epiphany of the Lord

Dear Family!

I wish you all a God-filled New Year! As many of you know that Christmas is not just a day but a season, we are filled abundantly by God with graces and blessings in all these days of the season. Our happiness is multiplied by many important feasts days that we celebrate in this season starting with Saint Stephen, the First Martyr (December 26th), Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist (December 27th) and continued our festive mood with the feast of Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph (December 28th) last Sunday.

The Octave Day of Christmas is the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God (January 1st). Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord and next Sunday with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (January 11th) we conclude the season of Christmas and enter into Ordinary Season.

The Old Testament Reading on the first day of the year has one of the finest blessings in the Bible. We need God’s grace and blessings every day to keep our time holy and God-filled. God’s gift of time is an invitation to everyone to seek His Face, His Kingdom. Mary as the Mother of God experienced the ‘restlessness’ in her heart. The light in her to fulfill God’s will never missed to affect her Son in the womb. Jesus was not only sharing her blood for nourishment but also her spirituality. We are given that Marian Spirituality as a gift on the first day of the New Year. As her sons and daughters, we fulfill God’s will for us, for our families and for our community.

‘Epiphany’ is understood as ‘appearance’ or ‘manifestation’. Jesus is revealed to the shepherds, the gentiles represented by the Magi, later in the synagogue Jesus reveals Himself as the Messiah and also in Cana, Jesus reveals Himself through the first miracle - all these revelations could collectively be called the Epiphany.

As different people reacted to the Epiphany differently, we are asked to be part of a reacting side: the side of Herod filled with hatred, jealousy and anger towards the baby Jesus; the side of priests and scribes with all knowledge and no action, all intellect and no wisdom, indifference. They ignored the Messiah. The side of shepherds and Magi went to adore him! May our longing for our messiah be filled with the blessings of those fortunate shepherds and Magi!

Pastor’s Appeal - Thanks to all of you for your efforts: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. Thank you for all you donations! Mercy Hall boiler situation has been a huge concern this year as we have been repairing the boiler for so many years and reached a point where we couldn’t do it anymore. The contract has been signed now and with your support and prayers we have begun this project! As part of this year’s Pastor’s Appeal, the second and the last project for this year is the Church Doors. A Contract has also been signed, and we hope to complete repairing the church doors in the early part of January 2026. You have made this possible for the parish with your prayers and donations! Thank you!

Conclusion of the Jubilee Year
The Jubilee of Prisoners that we celebrated last weekend (December 14th) was the last Jubilee and with that the Jubilee Year 2025 comes to an end in dioceses around the world on the Feast of the Holy Family (December 28, 2025), but in Rome, it will not end until January 6, 2026 with the closing of the Holy Doors at St. Peter’s Basilica, that is the way Pope Francis mentioned it in his Decree. (Jubilee also began earlier in Rome).

Special thanks to Our Choir, Decoration Ministry, Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Sacristans, Linen Ladies, Altar Servers and all Clergy: I thank all the members of our Parish Choir and The Hispanic Choir for all the hours sacrificed in preparation and worship to glorify God and help people pray! Thank you for your dedicated service to God and Community! The Decoration Committee has done so well throughout the year, taking care of flowers, plants, decorations, linen etc. Thank you for all your efforts to keep the church beautiful and providing people with a good ambience. My heart goes out to all our volunteers who keep the Church alive by their sacrifices! Thank you all! May we all be filled with God’s grace to renew our commitment to God and Church as we begin the New Year!

Epifanía Del Señor

¡Querida familia!

¡Les deseo a todos un Año Nuevo lleno de la presencia de Dios! Como muchos de ustedes saben, la Navidad no es solo un día, sino una temporada, y Dios nos colma abundantemente de gracias y bendiciones durante todos estos días. Nuestra alegría se multiplica con las importantes festividades que celebramos en esta temporada, comenzando con San Esteban, el primer mártir (26 de diciembre), San Juan, apóstol y evangelista (27 de diciembre), y continuando con la fiesta de la Sagrada Familia de Jesús, María y José (28 de diciembre) el domingo pasado.

El octavo día de Navidad es la Solemnidad de la Santísima Virgen María, Madre de Dios (1 de enero). Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad de la Epifanía del Señor y el próximo domingo, con la Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor (11 de enero), concluiremos el tiempo de Navidad y entraremos en el Tiempo Ordinario.

La lectura del Antiguo Testamento del primer día del año contiene una de las bendiciones más hermosas de la Biblia. Necesitamos la gracia y las bendiciones de Dios cada día para santificar nuestro tiempo y vivirlo en su presencia. El don del tiempo que Dios nos concede es una invitación para que todos busquemos su rostro, su reino. María, como Madre de Dios, experimentó esa inquietud en su corazón. La luz que la guiaba a cumplir la voluntad de Dios influyó profundamente en su Hijo desde el vientre materno. Jesús no solo compartía su sangre para nutrirse, sino también su espiritualidad. Esta espiritualidad mariana se nos ofrece como un don en el primer día del Año Nuevo. Como hijos e hijas de María, cumplimos la voluntad de Dios para nosotros, para nuestras familias y para nuestra comunidad.

La Epifanía se entiende como «aparición» o «manifestación». Jesús se revela a los pastores, a los gentiles representados por los Reyes Magos, más tarde en la sinagoga se revela a sí mismo como el Mesías, y también en Caná, donde se revela a través de su primer milagro; todas estas revelaciones pueden denominarse colectivamente Epifanía.

Así como diferentes personas reaccionaron de distinta manera ante la Epifanía, se nos invita a tomar partido: el lado de Herodes, lleno de odio, celos e ira hacia el niño Jesús; el lado de los sacerdotes y escribas, con todo el conocimiento pero sin acción, con mucha inteligencia pero sin sabiduría, con indiferencia. Ignoraron al Mesías. El lado de los pastores y los Reyes Magos, ¡que fueron a adorarlo! Que nuestro anhelo por nuestro Mesías esté colmado de las bendiciones de aquellos afortunados pastores y Reyes Magos.

Mensaje del pastor: Gracias a todos por sus esfuerzos: Estoy eternamente agradecido a todos ustedes por su generosidad. ¡Gracias por todas sus donaciones! La situación de la caldera del Salón de la Misericordia ha sido una gran preocupación este año, ya que la hemos estado reparando durante muchos años y llegamos a un punto en el que ya no era posible repararla más. ¡El contrato ya está firmado y, con su apoyo y oraciones, hemos comenzado este proyecto! Como parte de la campaña de recaudación de fondos de este año, el segundo y último proyecto es la reparación de las puertas de la iglesia. La semana pasada se firmó el contrato correspondiente y esperamos completar las reparaciones a principios de enero de 2026. ¡Gracias a sus oraciones y donaciones, esto ha sido posible para la parroquia! ¡Muchas gracias!

Conclusión del Año Jubilar
El Jubileo de los Prisioneros que celebramos el fin de semana pasado (14 de diciembre) fue el último Jubileo, y con él concluye el Año Jubilar 2025 en las diócesis de todo el mundo en la Fiesta de la Sagrada Familia (28 de diciembre de 2025), pero en Roma no finalizará hasta el 6 de enero de 2026 con el cierre de las Puertas Santas en la Basílica de San Pedro, tal como lo indicó el Papa Francisco en su decreto. (El Jubileo también comenzó antes en Roma).

Un agradecimiento especial a nuestro coro, al ministerio de decoración, a los lectores, a los ministros de la Eucaristía, a los sacristanes, a las encargadas de la ropa litúrgica, a los acólitos y a todo el clero: ¡Agradezco a todos los miembros de nuestro coro parroquial y al coro hispano por todas las horas dedicadas a la preparación y a la alabanza para glorificar a Dios y ayudar a la gente a orar! ¡Gracias por su servicio dedicado a Dios y a la comunidad! El comité de decoración ha realizado una labor excelente durante todo el año, cuidando las flores, las plantas, la decoración, la ropa litúrgica, etc. Gracias por todos sus esfuerzos para mantener la iglesia hermosa y brindar un ambiente agradable a todos. ¡Mi más sincero agradecimiento a todos nuestros voluntarios que mantienen viva la Iglesia con su dedicación! ¡Gracias a todos! Que la gracia de Dios nos llene a todos para renovar nuestro compromiso con Dios y con la Iglesia al comenzar el Año Nuevo.
