Dear Family!

This Sunday, our Universal Church celebrates the ‘Word of God’ Sunday. Cardinal Sarah wrote of it as Prefect for the Congregation of Divine Worship in 2020, “The Sunday of the Word of God, instituted by Pope Francis and to be held every year on the third Sunday of Ordinary Time, (Motu Proprio Aperuit Illis of Pope Francis, 2019) reminds us, pastors and faithful alike, of the importance and value of Sacred Scripture for the Christian life, as well as the relationship between the word of God and the liturgy:

“As Christians, we are one people, making our pilgrim way through history, sustained by the Lord, present in our midst, who speaks to us and nourishes us. A day devoted to the Bible should not be seen as a yearly event but rather a year-long event, for we urgently need to grow in our knowledge and love of the Scriptures and of the Risen Lord, who continues to speak his word and to break bread in the community of believers. For this reason, we need to develop a closer relationship with Sacred Scripture; otherwise, our hearts will remain cold and our eyes shut, inflicted as we are by so many forms of blindness” (II Vatican Council Dei Verbum).

Constitution Dei Verbum, n. 25 of the Second Vatican teaches us: “the clergy must hold fast to the Sacred Scriptures through diligent sacred reading and careful study, especially the priests of Christ and others, such as deacons and catechists who are legitimately active in the ministry of the word. This is to be done so that none of them will become ‘an empty preacher of the word of God outwardly, who is not a listener to it inwardly’ since they must share the abundant wealth of the divine word with the faithful committed to them, especially in the sacred liturgy. The sacred synod also earnestly and especially urges all the Christian faithful, especially Religious, to learn by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures the ‘excellent knowledge of Jesus Therefore, all Christ’ (Phil. 3:8). ‘For ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ’”.

Pastor’s Appeal - Thanks to all of you for your efforts: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. Thank you for all you donations! Mercy Hall boiler - The contract has been signed now and with your support and prayers we have begun this project! The work has begun and hopefully we complete it as planned. The same applies for the Church Doors. A Contract has been signed also. You have made this possible for the parish with your prayers and donations! Thank you! We will be updating you regularly on these projects.

Exploring Faith: Thanks to the Legion of Mary for hosting this event. We all need to constantly update our learning especially learning about our faith. There are ways to build community, and this is one of them - to come together and share what we believe and learn from each other. Though in the initial stage, this group can develop into a formidable strength to our parish when we formalize the topics discussed and follow them up with action. Please come and be part of it!

Filipino Catholics Gathering Feb 21st: There will be a gathering of all Filipinos on February 21st, Saturday after the 4:30pm Mass - a meet and greet session for parish involvement and ministry.

Rite of Election: Our Cathedral will have the Rite of Election on the 1st Sunday of Lent (February 22nd). We will be sending our OCIA Catechumens to this event and as a parish it is our duty to pray for them!

There are also a few minor projects in all our buildings: school classroom work, Mercy Hall painting work, getting heat in the Sacristy of the Church and some basic repair work in the rectory. I thank all our volunteers especially those who are involved in these projects. Please pray for all these works!

3º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

¡Querida familia!

Este domingo, nuestra Iglesia Universal celebra el Domingo de la Palabra de Dios. El Cardenal Sarah, como Prefecto de la Congregación para el Culto Divino, escribió al respecto en 2020: «El Domingo de la Palabra de Dios, instituido por el Papa Francisco y que se celebra cada año el tercer domingo del Tiempo Ordinario (Motu Proprio Aperuit Illis del Papa Francisco, 2019), nos recuerda, tanto a pastores como a fieles, la importancia y el valor de la Sagrada Escritura para la vida cristiana, así como la relación entre la Palabra de Dios y la liturgia: “Como cristianos, somos un solo pueblo que peregrina a través de la historia, sostenido por el Señor, presente en medio de nosotros, que nos habla y nos alimenta. Un día dedicado a la Biblia no debe considerarse un evento anual, sino un acontecimiento que abarca todo el año, pues necesitamos urgentemente crecer en el conocimiento y el amor de las Escrituras y del Señor Resucitado, que continúa anunciando su palabra y partiendo el pan en la comunidad de creyentes. Por esta razón, necesitamos desarrollar una relación más estrecha con la Sagrada Escritura; de lo contrario, nuestros corazones permanecerán fríos y nuestros ojos cerrados, afectados como estamos por tantas formas de ceguera” (Concilio Vaticano II, Dei Verbum)».

La Constitución Dei Verbum, n.º 25 del Concilio Vaticano II, nos enseña: «El clero debe aferrarse a las Sagradas Escrituras mediante la lectura asidua y el estudio diligente, especialmente los sacerdotes de Cristo y otros, como los diáconos y catequistas, que ejercen legítimamente el ministerio de la palabra. Esto debe hacerse para que ninguno de ellos se convierta en “un predicador vacío de la palabra de Dios externamente, que no la escucha interiormente”, ya que deben compartir la abundante riqueza de la palabra divina con los fieles que les han sido confiados, especialmente en la sagrada liturgia. El santo sínodo también exhorta encarecidamente a todos los fieles cristianos, especialmente a los religiosos, a que adquieran, mediante la lectura frecuente de las Sagradas Escrituras, el “conocimiento excelente de Jesucristo” (Fil 3,8). “Porque la ignorancia de las Escrituras es ignorancia de Cristo”».

Mensaje del pastor - Gracias a todos por sus esfuerzos: Les estoy eternamente agradecido por su generosidad. ¡Gracias por todas sus donaciones! Calefacción del Mercy Hall: ¡Ya se ha firmado el contrato y, con su apoyo y oraciones, hemos comenzado este proyecto! Las obras han comenzado y esperamos finalizarlas según lo previsto. Lo mismo ocurre con las puertas de la iglesia. También se ha firmado el contrato correspondiente. ¡Gracias a sus oraciones y donaciones, esto ha sido posible para la parroquia! Les mantendremos informados periódicamente sobre el progreso de estos proyectos.

Explorando la fe: Gracias a la Legión de María por organizar este evento. Todos necesitamos actualizar constantemente nuestros conocimientos, especialmente en lo que respecta a nuestra fe. Hay maneras de construir comunidad, y esta es una de ellas: reunirnos, compartir nuestras creencias y aprender unos de otros. Aunque se encuentra en su etapa inicial, este grupo puede convertirse en una fuerza formidable para nuestra parroquia si formalizamos los temas tratados y los llevamos a la práctica. ¡Los invitamos a participar!

Encuentro de católicos filipinos el 21 de febrero: El sábado 21 de febrero, después de la misa de las 4:30 pm, se llevará a cabo un encuentro para todos los filipinos, con el fin de conocerse y participar en las actividades y ministerios de la parroquia.

Rito de Elección: Nuestra catedral celebrará el Rito de Elección el primer domingo de Cuaresma (22 de febrero). Enviaremos a nuestros catecúmenos del OCIA a este evento, ¡y como parroquia es nuestro deber orar por ellos!

También tenemos algunos proyectos menores en todos nuestros edificios: trabajos en las aulas de la escuela, pintura en el Mercy Hall, instalación de calefacción en la sacristía de la iglesia y algunas reparaciones básicas en la casa parroquial. Agradezco a todos nuestros voluntarios, especialmente a quienes participan en estos proyectos. ¡Por favor, oren por todas estas obras!
