Dear Family!

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers! We began our Marian Month on the 1st of May. My best wishes to our children who have received their First Holy Communion and Confirmation and also thank the First Communicants for their participation in honoring our Blessed Mother last Sunday with the May Crowning ceremony. My sincere thanks to Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk, Kelly Perna, Eileen Dean, Christine Laquintano and all the volunteers who have prepared our children.

A special thanks to the families, especially the parents, for their generosity and faith in preparing our children for the Sacrament.

As you know the dioceses of the Latin Rite Province of Newark in New Jersey have transferred the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord to the Seventh Sunday of Easter. “The Solemnity of the Ascension be permanently transferred from Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter to the following Sunday. The bishops’ discernment included a great desire for more of the faithful to participate in this integral dimension of the completion of Our Lord's paschal mystery by the Ascension observed on a Sunday.” (March 25, 2022 Memorandum, Diocese of Metuchen)

From Easter to Pentecost our readings focus on the early apostolic preaching of the Good News of salvation and on the promises of Jesus to his disciples, especially his promise of the Holy Spirit. Today’s readings explain who the Holy Spirit is, what His roles are and how we can experience Him in our daily lives. The readings are also important for understanding the sacrament of confirmation. Indeed, confirmation (or chrismation) is closely linked to Pentecost. Pope Paul VI explains that confirmation "in a certain way perpetuates the grace of Pentecost in the Church”

Catechism teaches us that “Before his Passover, Jesus announced the sending of "another Paraclete" (Advocate), the Holy Spirit. At work since creation, having previously "spoken through the prophets", the Spirit will now be with and in the disciples, to teach them and guide them "into all the truth”. The Holy Spirit is thus revealed as another divine person with Jesus and the Father.” (CCC 243)

Confirmation 2026: A special word of thanks to our Faith Formation Team in preparing our children for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We have been blessed with Most Rev. Manuel A Cruz D. D.,Titular Bishop of Gaguari and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark to administer the Sacrament for our children. On behalf of all of you, I thank the Bishop for accepting our invitation. Please continue to pray for our children.

Special Franciscan Jubilee Year (January 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027)
Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed this year a Special Jubilee to mark the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis’ death in 1226. To commemorate the spirituality of St. Francis, we will have a weekly quote from St. Francis in our Bulletin.

Pope Leo’s First Anniversary of his Election: Our Pope celebrated his First year anniversary on May 8th . Please remember him in our daily prayers as he boldly severs the Universal Church.

250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence: As for the preparation in parish level, I strongly encourage you to share your faith by writing an article for the parish community. The topic - Our American Story: How my faith influenced my identity as an American and how being an American influenced my life as a Christian/Catholic. Please send your article to the parish office.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: First anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV (May 8th ), and the NJ Catholic Youth Rally (May 17th). Save the Date: this year is the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

¡Querida familia!

¡Feliz Día de la Madre a todas las madres! Comenzamos nuestro Mes Mariano el 1 de mayo. Mis mejores deseos para nuestros niños que recibieron su Primera Comunión y Confirmación, y también les agradezco su participación en honrar a nuestra Santísima Madre el domingo pasado con la ceremonia de la Coronación de Mayo. Mi sincero agradecimiento a Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk, Kelly Perna, Eileen Dean, Christine Laquintano y a todos los voluntarios que prepararon a nuestros niños. Un agradecimiento especial a las familias, especialmente a los padres, por su generosidad y fe al preparar a nuestros niños para elSacramento.

Como saben, las diócesis de la Provincia de Rito Latino de Newark, en Nueva Jersey, han trasladado la Solemnidad de la Ascensión de Nuestro Señor al Séptimo Domingo de Pascua. «La Solemnidad de la Ascensión se traslada de manera permanente del jueves de la Sexta Semana de Pascua al domingo siguiente. El discernimiento de los obispos incluyó un gran deseo de que un mayor número de fieles participe en esta dimensión integral de la culminación del misterio pascual de Nuestro Señor, mediante la celebración de la Ascensión en domingo». Desde la Pascua hasta Pentecostés, nuestras lecturas se centran en la predicación apostólica primitiva de la Buena Nueva de la salvación y en las promesas de Jesús a sus discípulos, especialmente su promesa del Espíritu Santo. Las lecturas de hoy explican quién es el Espíritu Santo, cuáles son sus funciones y cómo podemos experimentarlo en nuestra vida cotidiana. Estas lecturas son también importantes para comprender el sacramento de la Confirmación. De hecho, la Confirmación (o crismación) está estrechamente vinculada a Pentecostés. El Papa Pablo VI explica que la Confirmación «de cierto modo perpetúa en la Iglesia la gracia de Pentecostés».

El Catecismo nos enseña que: «Antes de su Pascua, Jesús anunció el envío de "otro Paráclito" (Abogado), el Espíritu Santo. Activo desde la creación, habiendo "hablado por los profetas" anteriormente, el Espíritu estará ahora con los discípulos y en ellos, para enseñarles y guiarlos "a toda la verdad". El Espíritu Santo se revela así como otra persona divina junto con Jesús y el Padre» (CCC 243).

Confirmación 2026: Un agradecimiento especial a nuestro Equipo de Formación en la Fe por preparar a nuestros niños para el Sacramento de la Confirmación. Hemos sido bendecidos con la presencia de Su Excelencia Reverendísima, Mons. Manuel A. Cruz, D.D., Obispo Titular de Gaguari y Obispo Auxiliar de la Arquidiócesis de Newark, para administrar el Sacramento a nuestros niños. En nombre de todos ustedes, agradezco al Obispo por aceptar nuestra invitación. Por favor, continúen rezando por nuestros adolescentes.

Año Jubilar Franciscano Especial (10 de enero de 2026 – 10 de enero de 2027)
El Papa León XIV ha proclamado este año como un Jubileo Especial para conmemorar el 800.º aniversario de la muerte de San Francisco, acaecida en 1226. Para celebrar la espiritualidad de San Francisco, incluiremos una cita semanal suya en nuestro boletín

Primer aniversario de la elección del Papa León: Nuestro Papa celebró su primer aniversario el pasado 8 de mayo. Por favor, recuérdenlo en nuestras oraciones diarias mientras sirve con valentía a la Iglesia Universal.

250.º Aniversario de la Declaración de Independencia: En cuanto a la preparación a nivel parroquial, los animo encarecidamente a compartir su fe escribiendo un artículo para la comunidad parroquial. El tema es: «Nuestra historia estadounidense: Cómo mi fe influyó en mi identidad como estadounidense y cómo ser estadounidense influyó en mi vida como cristiano/católico». Por favor, envíen su artículo a la oficina parroquial.
