Dear Family!

My sincere thanks to Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk, and Christine Laquintano for their dedicated service in training our children for the First Holy Communion. Last Saturday we had children receiving the Holy Communion. We thank the parents, God-Parents, Grandparents and all family members in making this sacrament available to the children as the Eucharist is the greatest gift that the children can receive.

The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love which Catholics in every part of the world [pay] to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1).

The Readings speak to us of the wonderful mystery of our spiritual union with our Risen Lord as Gaudium et Spes 45 teaches us, “the goal of human history, the focal point of the longings of history and civilization, the center of the human race, the joy of every heart and the answer to all its yearnings.”

St. John Paul II reflects on the question of Thomas in our gospel today: "How can we know the way?" expresses a spontaneous reaction to the presentation of the Christian view of life and reality. Indeed, it expresses the concern felt by every human being when awakened to a sense of responsibility for the life that God has given, when faced with the need to give direction to life’s activities. It is a question which has accompanied the human family in one way or another throughout its history, and which today takes the form of an acute concern for the very future of civilization, a concern which expresses itself in the hearts and voices of many, especially the young, as a dramatic plea for justice, peace and truth in human affairs.” (Homily from May 17, 1987)

Let us invoke the intercessions of our Lady in the words of St. John Paul II, “You are the splendor which in no way dims the light of Christ, for you exist in him and through him. Everything in you is fiat: you are the Immaculate One, through you there shines the fullness of grace. Here, then, are your children, gathered before you.”

Confirmation 2026: A special word of thanks to our Faith Formation Team in preparing our children for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We have been blessed with Most Rev. Manuel A Cruz D D, Titular Bishop of Gaguari and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark to administer the Sacrament for our children. On behalf of all of you, I thank the Bishop for accepting our invitation. Please join us for the special mass on Thursday, May 7th at 5pm in our church and pray for our teenagers.

Special Franciscan Jubilee Year (January 10, 2026 - January 10, 2027)
Pope Leo XIV has proclaimed this year a Special Jubilee to mark the 800th Anniversary of St. Francis’ death in 1226. To commemorate the spirituality of St. Francis, we will have a weekly quote from St. Francis in our Bulletin.

Venerable Fulton J Sheen will be beatified on September 24, 2026
The spectacular and proud moment for the American Church as we move closer to celebrate a very important day for all of us in witnessing the beatification of Venerable Fulton Sheen. The event will take place in St. Louis, Missouri and the Celebrant will be Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle representing our Pope.

250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence: As for the preparation in parish level, I strongly encourage you to share your faith in writing an article for the parish community. The topic - Our American Story: How my faith influenced my identity as an American and how being an American influenced my life as a Christian/Catholic. Please send your article to the parish office.

“From Isolation to Belonging: Mental Health and the Catholic Church” sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey will take place on May 2, 2026 at St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway.

Diocesan Programs in the near future: First anniversary of the election of Pope Leo XIV (May 8th ), and the NJ Catholic Youth Rally (May 17th). Save the Date: this year is the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

¡Querida familia!

Mi más sincero agradecimiento a Escarlen Duran, Diane Volk y Christine Laquintano por su dedicada labor en la preparación de nuestros niños para la Primera Comunión. El sábado pasado, —— niños recibieron la Sagrada Comunión. Agradecemos a los padres, padrinos, abuelos y a todos los familiares por hacer posible que los niños recibieran este sacramento, ya que la Eucaristía es el mayor regalo que ellos pueden recibir.

El mes de mayo es el «mes que la piedad de los fieles ha dedicado especialmente a Nuestra Señora», y constituye la ocasión para un «conmovedor tributo de fe y amor que los católicos de todas las partes del mundo [rinden] a la Reina del Cielo. Durante este mes, los cristianos —tanto en el templo como en la intimidad del hogar— ofrecen a María, desde lo más profundo de su corazón, un homenaje de oración y veneración especialmente ferviente y amoroso. En este mes, asimismo, los beneficios de la misericordia de Dios descienden sobre nosotros, desde su trono, con mayor abundancia» (Pablo VI: Encíclica sobre el mes de mayo, n.º 1).

Las lecturas nos hablan del maravilloso misterio de nuestra unión espiritual con nuestro Señor Resucitado, tal como nos enseña la *Gaudium et Spes* 45: «la meta de la historia humana, el punto focal de los anhelos de la historia y de la civilización, el centro del género humano, la alegría de todo corazón y la respuesta a todos sus anhelos».

San Juan Pablo II reflexiona sobre la pregunta de Tomás en el Evangelio de hoy: «¿Cómo podemos saber el camino?» expresa una reacción espontánea ante la presentación de la visión cristiana de la vida y de la realidad. En efecto, expresa la inquietud que siente todo ser humano al despertar a un sentido de responsabilidad por la vida que Dios le ha dado, al enfrentarse a la necesidad de dar rumbo a las actividades de la vida.

Es una pregunta que ha acompañado a la familia humana, de una u otra forma, a lo largo de su historia, y que hoy adopta la forma de una aguda preocupación por el propio futuro de la civilización; una preocupación que se manifiesta en los corazones y en las voces de muchos —especialmente de los jóvenes— como un dramático clamor por la justicia, la paz y la verdad en los asuntos humanos. Invoquemos la intercesión de Nuestra Señora con las palabras de San Juan Pablo II: «Tú eres el esplendor que en nada eclipsa la luz de Cristo, pues existes en Él y por Él. Todo en ti es *fiat*: eres la Inmaculada; a través de ti resplandece la plenitud de la gracia. He aquí, pues, a tus hijos, reunidos ante ti».

Confirmación 2026: Una palabra especial de agradecimiento a nuestro Equipo de Formación en la Fe por preparar a nuestros niños para el Sacramento de la Confirmación. Hemos sido bendecidos con la presencia de Su Excelencia Reverendísima Manuel A. Cruz, D. D., Obispo Titular de Gaguari y Obispo Auxiliar de la Arquidiócesis de Newark, para administrar el Sacramento a nuestros niños. En nombre de todos ustedes, agradezco al Obispo por aceptar nuestra invitación. Por favor, acompáñennos en la Misa especial el jueves 7 de mayo, a las 5:00 pm, en nuestra iglesia, y oren por nuestros adolescentes.

Año Jubilar Franciscano Especial (10 de enero de 2026 – 10 de enero de 2027)
El Papa León XIV ha proclamado este año como un Jubileo Especial para conmemorar el 800.º aniversario de la muerte de San Francisco, acaecida en 1226. Para celebrar la espiritualidad de San Francisco, incluiremos una cita semanal suya en nuestro boletín.

El Venerable Fulton J. Sheen será beatificado el 24 de septiembre de 2026.
Es un momento espectacular y de gran orgullo para la Iglesia estadounidense, a medida que nos acercamos a celebrar un día de suma importancia para todos nosotros: la beatificación del Venerable Fulton Sheen.
