Dear Family!

The greatest treasure of Advent is Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! As the new Church Year begins, I urge you to take along the ‘Green’ (Treasures of the Season of Ordinary Time) to the ‘Purple’ (The Season of Advent)”. Yes we are back to the days of purple as the season shares certain qualities of another purple season - Lent.

We thank God for all God’s blessings on us in the last liturgical year; all that we accomplished together and all the ministry we did together to glorify God. As we step into the New Year, we ask God to be with us in all our plannings and administration this year, the planned projects for this year, all committee meet, parish spiritual visions and other pastoral activities.

These four weeks before Christmas are our foundational efforts that set a tone for us for the whole liturgical year. As every season in the year is unique in its own theological implications, Advent cannot be ignored as an add-on to the Christmas Season. The commercial aspects and decorations may not distract us from focusing on preparing the way for the Messiah.

In the first reading (Is 2:1-5), Isaiah describes his prophetic vision of all nations making a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, affirming their Faith in the one true God. The Second reading and the Gospel talk about the Second-Coming and the due preparation that is needed from us to welcome Jesus. When our hearts are set on doing this very faith-filled act everyday of our lives especially in the Advent, we acknowledge both the First and Second Coming of Jesus.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church 451 teaches us, “Christian prayer is characterized by the title "Lord", whether in the invitation to prayer ("The Lord be with you"), its conclusion ("through Christ our Lord") or the exclamation full of trust and hope: Maranatha ("Our Lord, come!") or Maranatha ("Come, Lord!") - "Amen Come Lord Jesus!””

Let us enter into the season of Advent with a renewed spirit within us that encourages us to ‘Be Prepared. Let fear, worry and anxiety never stop us from our focus on Jesus; Let our every day of preparation include improving our relationships with God and people around us. Maranatha!

Pastor’s Appeal: I am forever grateful to all of you for your generosity. Thank you for all your donations! As announced at all masses how important it is to get Mercy Hall ready for the winter, we need to get the Boiler fixed. It is our primary concern. As shown in the pictures for the Pastor’s Appeal for year, the doors of the church need to be repaired by a professional company. Please prayerfully consider donating to these projects if you have not done so!

Thanks to our Finance Council
I extend my gratitude to our Finance Council for all their sacrifices of time and talent invested in meetings and planning. Special thanks to Ray DePillo, Cary Giacalone and William Casey for their years of service in this capacity. We wish them well for their future endeavors. We will have a new time at the beginning of 2026. Please pray for these men and thank them for their service to our community!

Our Diocese announced its Administrator on Nov 20th: We are so grateful to Bishop Checchio and his ministry with us for the past nine years. The College of Consultors fulfilled their Canonical Duty and elected the Very Reverend Jonathan S. Toborowsky as the Administrator of the Diocese of Metuchen. He will run the diocese until a new Bishop is elected. Let us all keep the new Administrator in our prayers!

Advent Penance Service on Tuesday, December 9th: I invite all the parents to bring the children for the Penance Service with confessions for Faith Formation Families at 4:30pm IN THE CHURCH. At 7pm there will be the Parish Penance Service for all! Please come with your families. There will be around six priests to hear confessions.

OCIA 2025 at SPSJ: Please include in your daily prayers all our OCIA members this year including our Parish team who is forming them. Primer Domingo De Adviento

¡Querida familia!

El mayor tesoro del Adviento es nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. Al comenzar el nuevo año litúrgico, los animo a llevar consigo el «Verde» (los tesoros del Tiempo Ordinario) al «Morado» (el Adviento). Sí, volvemos a los días morados, pues este tiempo litúrgico comparte ciertas características con otro tiempo litúrgico morado: la Cuaresma.

Damos gracias a Dios por todas sus bendiciones durante el año litúrgico pasado; por todo lo que logramos juntos y por todo el ministerio que realizamos juntos para glorificarlo. Al comenzar el nuevo año, le pedimos a Dios que nos acompañe en la planificación y administración de este año, en los proyectos previstos, en todas las reuniones de comité, en las visiones espirituales de la parroquia y en demás actividades pastorales.

Estas cuatro semanas previas a la Navidad constituyen nuestros esfuerzos fundamentales, marcando la pauta para todo el año litúrgico. Así como cada temporada del año posee implicaciones teológicas únicas, el Adviento no puede considerarse un mero añadido a la Navidad. Los aspectos comerciales y las decoraciones no deben distraernos de nuestro objetivo principal: preparar el camino para el Mesías.

En la primera lectura (Is. 2,1-5), Isaías describe su visión profética de todas las naciones peregrinando a Jerusalén, reafirmando su fe en el único Dios verdadero. La segunda lectura y el Evangelio hablan de la Segunda Venida y de la preparación necesaria para recibir a Jesús. Cuando nos proponemos realizar este acto de fe cada día de nuestra vida, especialmente durante el Adviento, reconocemos tanto la Primera como la Segunda Venida de Jesús.

El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica 451 nos enseña: “La oración cristiana se caracteriza por el título «Señor», ya sea en la invitación a la oración («El Señor esté contigo»), en su conclusión («por Cristo nuestro Señor») o en la exclamación llena de confianza y esperanza: Maranatha («¡Ven, Señor!») o Maranatha («¡Ven, Señor!») - «Amén. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!»”.

Entremos en el Adviento con un espíritu renovado que nos anime a estar preparados. Que el miedo, la preocupación y la ansiedad jamás nos aparten de nuestra mirada en Jesús; que cada día de preparación incluya fortalecer nuestra relación con Dios y con quienes nos rodean. ¡Maranatha!

Apelación del Pastor: Les estoy eternamente agradecido a todos por su generosidad. ¡Gracias por todas sus donaciones! Como se anunció en todas las misas, es fundamental preparar Mercy Hall para el invierno, y necesitamos reparar la calefacción. Es nuestra principal prioridad. Como se muestra en las fotos de la colecta pastoral de este año, las puertas de la iglesia necesitan ser reparadas por una empresa profesional. ¡Por favor, consideren en oración donar para estos proyectos si aún no lo han hecho!

Gracias a nuestro Consejo de Finanzas: Extiendo mi gratitud a nuestro Consejo de Finanzas por todos sus sacrificios y el tiempo dedicado a las reuniones y la planificación. Un agradecimiento especial a Ray DePillo, Cary Giacalone y William Casey por sus años de servicio en este cargo. Les deseamos mucho éxito en sus futuros proyectos. Tendremos un nuevo horario a principios de 2026. ¡Oren por ellos y agradézcanle por su servicio a nuestra comunidad!

Nuestra diócesis anuncio el administrador el 20 de noviembre: Estamos muy agradecidos al Obispo Checchio y a su ministerio con nosotros durante los últimos nueve años. El Colegio de Consultores cumplió con su deber canónico y eligió al Muy Reverendo Jonathan S. Toborowsky como Administrador de la Diócesis de Metuchen. Él dirigirá la diócesis hasta que se elija un nuevo Obispo. ¡Oremos todos por el nuevo Administrador!

Servicio de Penitencia de Adviento el martes 9 de diciembre: Invito a todos los padres a traer a sus hijos al Servicio de Penitencia con confesiones para las familias de Formación en la Fe a las 4:30 pm EN LA IGLESIA. A las 7 pm se celebrará el Servicio de Penitencia Parroquial para todos. Les invitamos a venir con sus familias. Habrá alrededor de seis sacerdotes para escuchar confesiones.
