Important Message about Holy Week and Easter

03-27-2020Daily Updates from Fr. JohnFr. John Barbella

During the current pandemic, we are called by our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and our Bishop, Most Reverend James F. Checchio, to unite spiritually in prayer during these most sacred times. Following the guidelines set forth by the Holy See (Pope Francis), Bishop Checchio has suspended all public worship until further notice.

Although all public celebrations in Church have been suspended until further notice, we will try to place the Liturgies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday on our parish website – as we are already doing for regular Sunday Mass. You can find the Sunday Mass from our parish on our website.

Palm Sunday

You may view our parish Palm Sunday Mass on the website. Because doctors have told us that the corona virus can be spread by touching and passing out palms to other people, palms will be made available after the pandemic, when we are able to return to normal public celebrations of Holy Mass.

Due the current restrictions in place to combat the corona virus, all scheduled events are cancelled until further notice.

Since it may be difficult to obtain certain foods at this time, our Bishop has dispensed us from the obligation to abstain from meat on Fri, Mar 27 and Fri, Apr.    This means that Catholics are free to eat meat those Fridays.

Stations of the Cross booklets are on the table near the entrance to the Church for those who wish to pray the Stations privately or with their family.

We will post information about Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter as soon as we are able to do so.

Anyone needing a priest for Last Rites or any emergency priestly ministry should call 908-454-0112 and follow the prompts.  Our priests are happy to be available to you at this time.

Please see the Parish website to view Holy Mass from our Church this Saturday night or Sunday.

While our office is closed at this time, you can find daily updates and read the current parish bulletin at our website.

03-22-2020Daily Updates from Fr. JohnFr. John Barbella

While it is indeed sad that we cannot celebrate Mass together today, you should be able to view today’s Mass on our website.

You can also find Fr. John’s Homily for this weekend, and other important information.

If you cannot access the Mass from our parish, you can try watching Mass from St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen at diometuchen.org. I tried it and it worked quite well.

As long as we are able to do so, we will leave the Church open during the day for private prayer and adoration.  As an Act of Charity, please respect people’s space and leave the required distance between yourself and others.

Anyone needing a priest for Confession or an emergency should call 908-454-0112 and follow the prompts.  Our priests are happy to be available to you at this time.

Priests will be available for those wishing to go to Confession at the usual Confession times – 9:00-9:30am and 3:15-4:15pm.

To keep everyone as safe as possible, we will not use the regular Confession Rooms for Confession today.  Rather, the priests will be sitting in a place where Confessions can be heard safely.

03-16-2020Daily Updates from Fr. JohnFr. John Barbella

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

We are all well aware of the threat posed by the coronavirus outbreak. In his concern for public health and the well being of each of us, Bishop Checchio has temporarily suspended the public celebration of Holy Mass in the churches of our diocese. This means that Holy Mass will not be celebrated publicly in our church from Wednesday, March 18 until at least Friday, April 3. The Bishop will reconsider the situation, in consultation with public health officials, at that time.

During this time, all scheduled Masses will be celebrated privately by our priests. The intentions for each Mass will be honored and prayed for – as required by Canon Law.

During this time our Church will remain open during the day for private prayer and reflection. Please use good judgment and common sense when coming to the Church to pray.
