Dear Family!

Reflection: We have just celebrated the Solemnity of All Saints and the Commemoration of All Souls day. I want to thank you for taking part in these beautiful liturgies especially praying for the dead and praying with the families who have lost their loved ones. The Bible teaches us that it is actually a holy thing to pray for the dead. Ecclesiastes 7:2 says, “it is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for that is the end of every mortal, and the living should take it to heart.”

This Sunday’s readings are the most challenging of all for all leaders of the Church and as a pastor I could relate to it and am humbled by it. I am nowhere perfect as a priest let alone as a person but am convinced that God called me to serve Him and the people. That’s the theme for this Sunday. Prophet Malachi chastised Jewish priests who put aside the fact that the law and their authority to teach it came from God. In doing so, they caused many to falter by their bad instruction and they showed partiality in their decision; that is, they were unjust.

While the Catholic faithful does not expect their pastors to support themselves with secular jobs, they ought to be hard working. What is more pathetic than a lazy, pleasure-indulging priest or bishop? We, the laity, should remember that bishops and priests are not “preserved from all human weaknesses, the spirit of domination, error, even sin.” While “the minister’s sin cannot impede the fruit of grace, in many other acts the minister leaves human traces that are not always signs of fidelity to the Gospel and consequently can harm the apostolic fruitfulness of the Church.” (CCC 1550)

The Catechism teaches us that the authority the leaders exercise is from God (CCC 876). This authority is experienced in their ministry to serve like Christ. The priesthood, then, “depends entirely on Christ and on his unique priesthood” and “it has been instituted for the good of men and the communion of the Church” (CCC 1551).

“The exercise of this authority must . . . be measured against the model of Christ, who by love made himself the least and the servant of all” (CCC 1551). For the bishop or priest, concern for Christ’s flock is “proof of love for him” (CCC 1551).

Eucharistic Revival Seminar: We have successfully hosted six seminars, thanks to all the volunteers of the ’72 Disciples’ ministry. Our seventh seminar is on NOV 8TH, 6:30pm. Fr. Charles O’Connor will be our presenter. The topic for the seminar is “Eucharist and Mission, Evangelization.” I continue to encourage you to make an effort to be part of the community learning. It is crucial for the present and future of our faith and church that we learn and live our faith together.

Bible Study: We started our Bible Study on October 25th at 5pm in Mercy Hall with the Gospel According to St. Mark. The Second Study was on November 1st. The third study will be on the 8th of November at 5pm. There are nine study hours planned this season to cover the Gospel. I thank all the parishioners who joined the Bible Study; it shows how much you long to get to know the word of God. I strongly encourage the whole parish to use these opportunities for community learning.

Parish Census: As a parish we are obligated to give the diocese the right count on how many parishioners we have. It also helps us to prepare and plan our daily affairs like budget and future planning. It is also important to update our parish census as to sacramental entries, deaths and absence of people due to change of address etc. I thank all volunteers in being part of this important obligation.

Holy Hour: Every first Friday of the month we have holy hour in English at 6pm. Please join the parish community in prayer and worship; and also help us to spread the word. Bring along all your petitions and the needs of the community! During the time of the Holy Hour there will not be adoration at the chapel. The adorers are requested to join the parish community in the Holy Hour.

¡Querida familia!

Reflexión: Acabamos de celebrar la Solemnidad de Todos los Santos y la Conmemoración de Todos los Difuntos. Quiero agradecerles por participar en estas hermosas liturgias, especialmente orando por los muertos y orando con las familias que han perdido a sus seres queridos. La Biblia nos enseña que en realidad es algo santo orar por los muertos. Eclesiastés 7:2 dice: “Es mejor ir a una casa de luto que a una casa de banquete, porque ese es el fin de todo mortal, y los vivos deben tomarlo en serio”.

Las lecturas de este domingo son las más desafiantes de todas para todos los líderes de la Iglesia y, como pastor, puedo identificarme con ellas y sentirme humilde ante ellas.

No soy perfecto como sacerdote y mucho menos como persona, pero estoy convencido de que Dios me llamó a servirle a Él y al pueblo. Ese es el tema de este domingo. El profeta Malaquías reprendió a los sacerdotes judíos que dejaban de lado el hecho de que la ley y su autoridad para enseñarla provenían de Dios. Al hacerlo, hicieron vacilar a muchos por su mala instrucción y mostraron parcialidad en su decisión; es decir, fueron injustos.

Si bien los fieles católicos no esperan que sus pastores se mantengan con trabajos seculares, sí deberían trabajar duro. ¿Qué es más patético que un sacerdote u obispo perezoso y complaciente con los placeres?

Nosotros, los laicos, debemos recordar que los obispos y sacerdotes no están “preservados de todas las debilidades humanas, del espíritu de dominación, del error e incluso del pecado”. Si bien “el pecado del ministro no puede impedir el fruto de la gracia, en muchos otros actos el ministro deja huellas humanas que no siempre son signos de fidelidad al Evangelio y, en consecuencia, pueden perjudicar la fecundidad apostólica de la Iglesia”. (CCC 1550)

El Catecismo nos enseña que la autoridad que ejercen los líderes proviene de Dios (CCC 876). Esta autoridad se experimenta en su ministerio para servir como Cristo. El sacerdocio, pues, “depende enteramente de Cristo y de su sacerdocio único” y “ha sido instituido para el bien de los hombres y la comunión de la Iglesia” (CIC 1551).

“El ejercicio de esta autoridad debe. . . medirse según el modelo de Cristo, que por amor se hizo el más pequeño y servidor de todos” (CIC 1551). Para el obispo o sacerdote, la preocupación por el rebaño de Cristo es “prueba de amor a Él” (CIC 1551).

Seminario de Avivamiento Eucarístico: Hemos organizado con éxito seis seminarios, gracias a todos los voluntarios del ministerio '72 Discípulos'. Nuestro séptimo seminario es el 8 DE NOVIEMBRE a las 6:30 p.m. P. Charles O'Connor será nuestro presentador. El tema del seminario es “Eucaristía y Misión, Evangelización”. Sigo animándote a que hagas un esfuerzo por ser parte de la comunidad de aprendizaje. Es crucial para el presente y el futuro de nuestra fe y de nuestra iglesia que aprendamos y vivamos nuestra fe juntos.

Estudio Bíblico: Comenzamos nuestro Estudio Bíblico el 25 de octubre a las 5pm en Mercy Hall con el Evangelio Según San Marcos. El Segundo Estudio fue el 1 de noviembre. El tercer estudio será el 8 de noviembre a las 17 horas. Hay nueve horas de estudio previstas esta temporada para cubrir el Evangelio. Agradezco a todos los feligreses que se sumaron al Estudio Bíblico; muestra cuánto anhelas conocer la palabra de Dios. Recomiendo encarecidamente a toda la parroquia que aproveche estas oportunidades para el aprendizaje comunitario.

Censo Parroquial: Como parroquia estamos obligados a darle a la diócesis el recuento correcto de cuántos feligreses tenemos. También nos ayuda a preparar y planificar nuestros asuntos diarios como el presupuesto y la planificación futura.

También es importante actualizar nuestro censo parroquial en cuanto a entradas sacramentales, muertes y ausencias de personas por cambio de dirección, etc. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios por ser parte de esta importante obligación.

Hora Santa: Cada primer viernes de mes tenemos hora santa en inglés a las 6 p.m. Únase a la comunidad parroquial en oración y adoración; y también ayúdanos a correr la voz. ¡Traiga todas sus peticiones y necesidades de la comunidad! Durante el tiempo de la Hora Santa no habrá adoración en la capilla. Se solicita a los adoradores que se unan a la comunidad parroquial en la Hora Santa.
