Dear Family!

Reflection: We are celebrating ‘Gaudete Sunday’ (Laetare Sunday in Lent) as the Universal Church rejoices in the Lord because ‘the Lord is near’ echoing the Opening Prayer, “we who look forward to the birthday of Christ, experience the joy of salvation and celebrate that feast with love and thanksgiving.”

Self-knowledge is indispensable to all. Socrates is known for his wisdom of ‘knowing thyself’. Thomas Merton said, “The first step toward finding God, who is Truth, is to discover the truth about myself: and if I have been in error, this first step to truth is the discovery of my error.”

Self-knowledge is the gift of God. John the Baptist shows a great depth in self-knowledge: I am not the Christ, I am not Elijah, and I am not the Prophet. Self-knowledge leads us to better understand and appreciate our vocation: to be the voice for God. He shows a great depth of humility in accepting his vocation when he said that he is just a voice in the desert and when the Messiah comes, he is not fit to untie the sandals. We should note here that the slaves take pride in untying their master’s sandals. John the Baptist stretches the limits of his humility to not even be called a slave. Self-knowledge prepares us to accept and live our vocation in the spirit of humility.

The coming of the Messiah is indeed a preparation of the self. The more we commit ourselves in understanding and loving our own selves as God wants us to, the committed we will be in getting ready to welcome him. The Word of God needs a straight path to our hearts and to our society. The Word of God needs a strong and vibrant voice. We are the voice of the Word.

Let us invoke the blessings of God to reveal to us what we want to know. Let our self-knowledge bring joy and happiness to us and to our society. Let our voices turn the hearts of people to God. Only then we can show people like John the Baptist, “Behold the Lamb of God.”

Eucharistic Revival Seminar: My sincere thanks to all the volunteers of ’72 Disciples’ ministry. As we thank Fr. Gilbert for the Eighth seminar on “Eucharist and the Effects of Holy Communion.” I appreciate all who have participated. I continue to encourage community learning as it is indispensable for our faith. The next seminar will be on January 10th, 6:30pm. The Vicar General Fr. Jay Tabrowski will be our next presenter.

Bible Study: Every Wednesdays at 5pm in Mercy Hall. All are welcome! December 13th, we learned ‘Miracles in the Gospel of Mark’ (6:33 - 8:26). Our next Bible Study will be on the 20th, 5pm in Mercy Hall. We will be learning “On the Way of Discipleship (8:27 - 10:52). After this class we will break for Christmas and resume on the 3rd of January. Please join us!

Thank you! Our heartfelt thanks to Giving-Tree Ministry and the volunteers who were involved in collecting and distributing gifts to the poor and the needy. It is a lot of work in sorting out gifts and making sure the poor are taken care of. Thank you! God bless you!. Also, we thank the Finance Council in meeting with the parishioners and answering financial questions. As we strive to be transparent in our service to you, I invite you to approach me if you have any questions. We also thank all the priests who have helped us with Confession during our Advent Penance Service. There will also be many opportunities to go to confession before Christmas - a great way to prepare our hearts for the coming of the Messiah!

Happy Birthday to Fr. Pat!: We wish Fr. Pat on his birthday last Friday! We thank him for his service and spiritual accompaniment to our community! Please keep Fr. Pat in your prayers!

¡Querida familia!

Reflexión: Estamos celebrando el 'Domingo Gaudete' (Domingo Laetare en Cuaresma) mientras la Iglesia Universal se regocija en el Señor porque 'el Señor está cerca' haciendo eco de la Oración Inicial, "nosotros que esperamos el cumpleaños de Cristo, experimentamos la alegría de la salvación y celebrar esa fiesta con amor y acción de gracias”. El autoconocimiento es indispensable para todos. Sócrates es conocido por su sabiduría de "conócete a ti mismo". Thomas Merton dijo: "El primer paso para encontrar a Dios, que es la Verdad, es descubrir la verdad sobre mí mismo: y si me he equivocado, este primer paso hacia la verdad es el descubrimiento de mi error".

El autoconocimiento es don de Dios. Juan Bautista muestra una gran profundidad en el autoconocimiento: no soy el Cristo, no soy Elías y no soy el Profeta. El autoconocimiento nos lleva a comprender y valorar mejor nuestra vocación: ser voz de Dios. Muestra una gran humildad al aceptar su vocación cuando dice que él es sólo una voz en el desierto y que cuando venga el Mesías no será apto para desatar las sandalias. Debemos señalar aquí que los esclavos se enorgullecen de desatar las sandalias de su amo. Juan Bautista extiende los límites de su humildad para ni siquiera ser llamado esclavo. El autoconocimiento nos prepara para aceptar y vivir nuestra vocación con espíritu de humildad.

La venida del Mesías es en verdad una preparación del yo. Cuanto más nos comprometamos a comprendernos y amarnos a nosotros mismos como Dios quiere, más comprometidos estaremos a prepararnos para recibirlo. La Palabra de Dios necesita un camino recto hacia nuestros corazones y hacia nuestra sociedad. La Palabra de Dios necesita una voz fuerte y vibrante. Somos la voz de la Palabra.

Invoquemos las bendiciones de Dios para que nos revele lo que queremos saber. Dejemos que nuestro autoconocimiento nos traiga alegría y felicidad a nosotros y a nuestra sociedad. Dejemos que nuestras voces vuelvan los corazones de las personas hacia Dios. Sólo entonces podremos mostrarles a personas como Juan el Bautista: “He aquí el Cordero de Dios”.

Charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico: Mi más sincero agradecimiento a todos los voluntarios del ministerio '72 Discípulos'. Mientras agradecemos al P. Gilbert para la octava charla sobre “La Eucaristía y los efectos de la Sagrada Comunión”. Agradezco a todos los que han participado. Sigo fomentando el aprendizaje comunitario, ya que es indispensable para nuestra fe. El próximo seminario será el 10 de enero a las 6:30 p.m. El Vicario General P. Jay Tabrowski será nuestro próximo presentador.

Estudio Bíblico: Todos los miércoles a las 5pm en Mercy Hall. ¡Todos son bienvenidos! El 13 de diciembre aprendimos 'Los milagros en el Evangelio de Marcos' (6:33 - 8:26). Nuestro próximo Estudio Bíblico será el día 20 a las 5pm en Mercy Hall. Estaremos aprendiendo “En el camino del discipulado (8:27 - 10:52).
