Dear Family!

Reflection: Pope Francis encouraged the world with his advent message in the following words: “Dear friends, it will be good for us today to ask ourselves how we can prepare a welcoming heart for the Lord. We can do so by approaching His forgiveness, His Word, His Table, finding space for prayer, welcoming those in need. Let us cultivate His expectation without letting ourselves be distracted by so many pointless things, and without complaining all the time, but keeping our hearts alert, that is, eager for Him, awake and ready, impatient to meet Him.” (12-3-2023)

Come to think of it, this season is very short (only four Sundays) for a time of preparation, and we are already in the second week. Our preparations necessarily must include prayerful reflections on both aspects of advent of Christ: The coming of Christ in the Incarnation and the future coming of Christ at the end of time (Ref CCC 524).

The readings are filled with hope and encouragement to the faithful: Isaiah proclaims hope through the New Exodus where God comes to save his people. This message of hope is fulfilled in the ministry of Jesus but also at the end of time. The Gospel today begins with these words, “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the son of God.” The word ‘Gospel’ means ‘Good News’. The word ‘Gospel’ carries with it the message of hope, encouragement, comfort, contentment, nurture, leading as a shepherd and moreover, the Presence of God.

The Gospel or the Good News is Jesus Christ; the Gospel is about Jesus Christ and the Gospel is from the Father. The Father speaking the WORD signifies the nearness of God. John’s cry in the wilderness is an invitation to hear, keep and interiorize the Word. John responds to the Word through humility and so can we! John chose a way to glorify God and so can we!

Eucharistic Revival Seminar: My sincere thanks to all the volunteers of ’72 Disciples’ ministry. Our Eighth seminar will be on Dec 13TH, 6:30pm. Fr. Gilbert Starcher will be presenting the seminar “Eucharist and the Effects of Holy Communion.”.

It would be a great opportunity to see Fr. Gilbert again and learn from him. I continue to encourage you to make an effort to be part of the community learning.

Bible Study: Every Wednesdays at 5pm in Mercy Hall. All are welcome! December 6th, we learned about the “Authority of Jesus, Unbelief in Jesus & the Mission” (Mark 4:35 - 6:32). Next class will be on December 13th at 5pm in Mercy Hall. The topic is ‘Miracles in the Gospel of Mark’ (6:33 - 8:26). Please join us!

Penance Service & Confession Time Change: From December 3rd, we began the new schedule for confession: the Saturday Morning confessions to 10am - 10:45am. Please help us to spread the word. There will be confessions available also during the week. Please call the parish office 908-454-0112 Monday to Friday 10-12, and 3-4pm. Our Advent Penance Service is on the 12th of December starting from 4pm for the Faith Formation Children and parents and at 7pm for all others. Please make use of this opportunity to participate in this community service.

Thank you!: As a follow up session after sharing the financial statements, the Finance Council met with Parishioners for more information and answers for your questions. I thank the Finance Council for their service and all parishioners who took part in the discussions.

Prayer Requests: I request you to pray for the Parish Census initiative. We are grateful for all the volunteers who are involved in this and with your support and cooperation we can get this done soon. Also there have been a few meetings with the Diocese to improve the enrollment and finances of the School. There is an important meeting organized by our Bishop on the 14th of December with all the pastors of our county.

Please pray for the needs of our school. Be assured of my love and prayers for you and family!

¡Querida familia!

Reflexión: El Papa Francisco animó al mundo con su mensaje de adviento con las siguientes palabras: “Queridos amigos, hoy será bueno que nos preguntemos cómo podemos preparar un corazón acogedor para el Señor. Podemos hacerlo acercándonos a Su perdón, Su Palabra, Su Mesa, encontrando espacio para la oración, acogiendo a los necesitados. Cultivemos su expectativa sin dejarnos distraer por tantas cosas inútiles, y sin quejarnos todo el tiempo, sino manteniendo el corazón alerta, es decir, ávido de Él, despierto y dispuesto, impaciente por encontrarlo”. (3-12-2023)

Ahora que lo pienso, esta temporada es muy corta (sólo cuatro domingos) para un tiempo de preparación, y ya estamos en la segunda semana. Nuestras preparaciones deben incluir necesariamente reflexiones orantes sobre ambos aspectos del advenimiento de Cristo: la venida de Cristo en la Encarnación y la futura venida de Cristo al final de los tiempos (Ref. CCC 524).

Las lecturas están llenas de esperanza y aliento a los fieles: Isaías proclama la esperanza a través del Nuevo Éxodo donde Dios viene a salvar a su pueblo.

Este mensaje de esperanza se cumple en el ministerio de Jesús pero también en el fin de los tiempos. El Evangelio de hoy comienza con estas palabras: “El comienzo del evangelio de Jesucristo, el hijo de Dios”. La palabra "Evangelio" significa "Buenas Nuevas". La palabra "Evangelio" lleva consigo el mensaje de esperanza, aliento, consuelo, contentamiento, nutrición, liderazgo como pastor y, además, la Presencia de Dios.

El Evangelio o la Buena Nueva es Jesucristo; el Evangelio es sobre Jesucristo y el Evangelio es del Padre. El Padre que habla la PALABRA significa la cercanía de Dios. El grito de Juan en el desierto es una invitación a escuchar, guardar e interiorizar la Palabra. Juan responde a la Palabra a través de la humildad y ¡nosotros también podemos hacerlo! ¡Juan eligió una manera de glorificar a Dios y nosotros también podemos hacerlo!

Charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico: Mi más sincero agradecimiento a todos los voluntarios del ministerio '72 Discípulos'. Nuestro octavo seminario será el 13 de diciembre a las 6:30 pm P. Gilbert Starcher presentará la charla sobre “La Eucaristía y los efectos de la Sagrada Comunión”. Sería una gran oportunidad para ver al P. Gilbert nuevamente y aprender de él. Sigo animándolos a que hagan un esfuerzo por ser parte de la comunidad de aprendizaje.

Estudio Bíblico: Todos los miércoles a las 5pm en Mercy Hall. ¡Todos son bienvenidos! El 6 de diciembre aprendimos “La autoridad de Jesús, la incredulidad en Jesús y la misión” (Marcos 4:35 - 6:32). La próxima clase será el 13 de diciembre a las 5 pm en Mercy Hall. El tema es "Milagros en el Evangelio de Marcos" (6:33 - 8:26). ¡Por favor únete a nosotros!

Servicio de penitencia y cambio de horario de confesión: a partir del 3 de diciembre, comenzamos el nuevo horario de confesión: las confesiones del sábado por la mañana de 10am a 10:45am. Por favor ayúdanos a correr la voz. Habrá confesiones disponibles también durante la semana. Llame a la oficina parroquial al 908-454-0112 de lunes a viernes de 10 a 12 y de 3 a 4 pm. Nuestro Servicio de Penitencia de Adviento es el 12 de diciembre a partir de las 4 pm para los niños y padres de formación de fe y a las 7 pm para todos los demás. ¡Gracias!: Como sesión de seguimiento después de compartir los estados financieros, el Consejo de Finanzas se reunió con los feligreses para obtener más información y respuestas a sus preguntas. Agradezco al Consejo de Finanzas por su servicio y a todos los feligreses que participaron en las discusiones.

Peticiones de Oración: Les pido que oren por la iniciativa del Censo Parroquial. Estamos agradecidos por todos los voluntarios que participan en esto y con su apoyo y cooperación podremos lograrlo pronto. También ha habido algunas reuniones con la Diócesis para mejorar la matrícula y las finanzas del Colegio. Hay una reunión importante organizada por nuestro Obispo el día 14 de diciembre con todos los pastores de nuestro condado. Por favor oren por las necesidades de nuestra escuela.
