Dear Family!

The Universal Church celebrates, as the Church teaches, “The Sunday of the Word of God, instituted by Pope Francis and to be held every year on the third Sunday of Ordinary Time, reminds us, pastors and faithful alike, of the importance and value of Sacred Scripture for the Christian life, as well as the relationship between the word of God and the liturgy: “As Christians, we are one people, making our pilgrim way through history, sustained by the Lord, present in our midst, who speaks to us and nourishes us.” (Dec 17, 2020, Congregation for Divine Worship & the Discipline of the Sacraments).

As early as the third Sunday of the Ordinary Time, we are reflecting on the Kingdom of God. As Jesus was anointed as Priest, Prophet and King during the baptism by John the Baptist (also in the 1st chapter verses 9-11) Jesus is out and about establishing the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom preached by Jesus has special qualities. Jesus said, “My Kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36). The Kingdom of God is present wherever God’s will at work. It is present when a person is filled with love and leads people to reconcile and heal so that they respond to God’s love.

Church teaches us that the Kingdom is clearly visible in the very person of Christ who came to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. By adoption we are all called to the Kingdom. The Second Vatican taught us that the Church is the servant of the Kingdom of God. You and I are called by God to be part of the Church to make God visible in our love for God and one another.

The ‘Our Father’ invites us to pray for the Kingdom to come. The Kingdom comes when I am open to the commandment of love. Jesus gave no other measure for love other than - Love as I have loved you! The call of God to holiness (Gospel reading today) is the first step to feel and be part of the Kingdom of God. You are called!

Catholic School Week (Jan 28 - Feb 3): With the help of our Bishop and other pastors in our County, we want to make the most of this week with letters, postcards, posters advertising our School. There will be teams going to different parishes presenting our school to parents. Please see the letter at the last page of the bulletin. I request you to support and help us to spread the news and create awareness!

Eucharistic Revival Seminar is on February 13th 4:30pm: Our next seminar on the Eucharist is titled “Foundational teachings from the Eucharistic Prayers”. We will have two priests, Fr. Matthew Marinelli and Fr. Joseph Illes. Both are from our parish and ordained for our diocese. These young men are coming to our parish to talk to us of the importance of Eucharist from their vocational journey that helped them to become priests. These young priests are invited first and foremost to foster vocations in our parish - We will host this seminar in place of Faith Formation (CCD) so all the children and parents can attend this event. I request all parishioners to join us! Your presence will help the spirituality of our children. I continue to encourage community learning as it is indispensable for our faith.

Bible Study on Mark: All are welcome! Our last Bible Study was on Jan 15th, 5pm in Mercy Hall. We were learning “On the Way of Discipleship (8:27 - 10:52). Next class will be on Feb 7th, 5pm at Mercy Hall. This will immensely help you with your Sunday Mass experience as Year B reflects on Mark. There is a new Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles starting February 29th. This will be in preparation for the Easter Season 2024.

Ordinary Maintenance Projects: We have just repaired and tuned our security system. The wall repair at the back of the Risen Christ Statue in the Church is now completed. We are also pondering over the removal of old carpet in our Chapel and replacing it with hardwood. We also need to do some maintenance work at the Sacristy. We are also looking into repairing the floor in Mercy Hall. These are all Ordinary Maintenance projects, something simple, not a major undertaking. Your prayers and support are always needed! ¡Querida familia! La Iglesia Universal celebra, como enseña la Iglesia, “El Domingo de la Palabra de Dios, instituido por el Papa Francisco y que se celebrará cada año en el tercer domingo del Tiempo Ordinario, nos recuerda, tanto a los pastores como a los fieles, la importancia y el valor de la Sagrada Escritura para la vida cristiana, así como la relación entre la palabra de Dios y la liturgia: “Como cristianos, somos un solo pueblo, que caminamos en peregrinación a través de la historia, sostenidos por el Señor, presente en medio de nosotros, que habla a nosotros y nos nutre”. (17 de diciembre de 2020, Congregación para el Culto Divino y la Disciplina de los Sacramentos).

Ya en el tercer domingo del Tiempo Ordinario reflexionamos sobre el Reino de Dios. Como Jesús fue ungido como Sacerdote, Profeta y Rey durante el bautismo de Juan el Bautista (también en el primer capítulo, versículos 9-11), Jesús está fuera y estableciendo el Reino de Dios. El Reino predicado por Jesús tiene cualidades especiales. Jesús dijo: “Mi Reino no es de este mundo” (Juan 18:36). El Reino de Dios está presente dondequiera que actúe la voluntad de Dios. Está presente cuando una persona se llena de amor y lleva a las personas a reconciliarse y sanarse para que respondan al amor de Dios.

La Iglesia nos enseña que el Reino es claramente visible en la persona misma de Cristo que vino a servir y a dar su vida en rescate por muchos. Por adopción todos somos llamados al Reino. El Vaticano Segundo nos enseñó que la Iglesia es sierva del Reino de Dios. Tú y yo somos llamados por Dios a ser parte de la Iglesia para hacer visible a Dios en nuestro amor por Dios y por los demás.

El 'Padre Nuestro' nos invita a orar para que venga el Reino. El Reino llega cuando estoy abierto al mandamiento del amor. Jesús no dio otra medida para el amor que: ¡Amad como yo os he amado! El llamado de Dios a la santidad (lectura del Evangelio de hoy) es el primer paso para sentir y ser parte del Reino de Dios. ¡Eres llamado!

Semana de la Escuela Católica (28 de enero - 3 de febrero): Con la ayuda de nuestro Obispo y otros pastores de nuestro Condado, queremos aprovechar al máximo esta semana con cartas, postales y carteles anunciando nuestra Escuela. Habrá equipos que irán a diferentes parroquias presentando nuestra escuela a los padres. Por favor vea la carta en la última página del boletín. ¡Les pido que nos apoyen y ayuden a difundir la noticia y crear conciencia!

El Seminario de Avivamiento Eucarístico es el 13 de febrero a las 4:30 pm: Nuestro próximo seminario sobre la Eucaristía se titula “Enseñanzas fundamentales de las Oraciones Eucarísticas”. Tendremos dos sacerdotes, el P. Mateo Marinelli y el P. José Illes. Ambos son de nuestra parroquia y ordenados para nuestra diócesis. Estos jóvenes vienen a nuestra parroquia para hablarnos de la importancia de la Eucaristía desde su camino vocacional que los ayudó a ser sacerdotes. Estos jóvenes sacerdotes están invitados ante todo a fomentar las vocaciones en nuestra parroquia. Organizaremos este seminario en lugar de Formación de Fe (CCD) para que todos los niños y padres puedan asistir a este evento. ¡Solicito a todos los feligreses que se unan a nosotros! Tu presencia ayudará a la espiritualidad de nuestros hijos. Sigo fomentando el aprendizaje comunitario, ya que es indispensable para nuestra fe.

Estudio Bíblico sobre Marcos: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Nuestro último estudio bíblico fue el 15 de enero a las 5 p.m. en Mercy Hall. Estábamos aprendiendo “Sobre el camino del discipulado (8:27 - 10:52). La próxima clase será el 7 de febrero a las 5 p.m. en Mercy Hall. Esto te ayudará enormemente con tu experiencia en la Misa dominical mientras el Año B reflexiona sobre Marcos. Hay un nuevo Estudio Bíblico sobre los Hechos de los Apóstoles a partir del 29 de febrero. Esto será en preparación para la temporada de Pascua de 2024.

Proyectos de Mantenimiento: Acabamos de reparar y afinar nuestro sistema de seguridad. La reparación de la pared en la parte trasera de la Estatua del Cristo Resucitado en la Iglesia ya está completa. También estamos reflexionando sobre la posibilidad de quitar la alfombra vieja de nuestra Capilla y reemplazarla con madera dura. También necesitamos hacer algunos trabajos de mantenimiento en la Sacristía. También estamos considerando reparar el piso en Mercy Hall. Todos estos son proyectos de Mantenimiento Ordinario, algo simple, no una gran empresa. ¡Sus oraciones y apoyo siempre son necesarios!
