Dear Family!

As Year A, B and C in Lent reflected on ‘Temptations of Jesus’ on the 1st Sunday of Lent, Year A, B and C in Lent on the 2nd Sunday we reflect on the ‘Mystery of the Transfiguration of Jesus’. One of the focal points that caught my attention is the journey of the disciples. Peter, James and John were fishermen. They were used to the depth of the ocean, chillness of the water and softness of the sand. They were guided by Jesus to experience something so contrasting and different to an average fisherman. On their way up the mountain, they experienced the towering height of the mountain, the heat on the rocks and the hardness of stones and thorns.

This experience was so new and foreign that Peter cried out, “Lord it is good to be here!’ It is an amazing expression from a fisherman who was so used to the ocean, sand and water. Lent is an amazing time for all of us who can associate with Peter and cry out, ‘Lord! It is good be here!’

This ‘Transfiguration experience’ is complimented by the ‘Abrahamic experience’ that we reflected in the 1st reading today. Abraham made a long journey from a longing and yearning for a son then to offering up his son to God, that obedience, that maturity in faith, that readiness of heart and that determination to sacrifice anything to the Glory of God did not go unnoticed. God rewarded Abraham with the graces to be the Father of Faith. Abraham was given the foretaste of God’s salvation to humanity through God’s own offering of God’s Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. As we see in faith, the new experience of the disciples lead them to an awesome presence of the Trinity. Let our new experience in Lent bring God in all that we do.

Eucharistic Revival Seminar was on February 20th 4:30pm: We sincerely thank Fr. Matthew Marinelli for accepting to come to our parish for this month’s Eucharistic Revival Seminar. It was our intention to focus this month on our Faith Formation Children and encourage vocations in them through the young priests of our diocese.

As we delve deep into the season of Lent, I request you to prayerfully consider attending these spiritual talks - it is once a month and only one hour a month. You get to know other parishioners and you have an opportunity to learn your faith with a community. I continue to encourage community learning as it is indispensable for our faith.

Bible Study: All are welcome! As you probably know, it takes hours of preparation to put together one lesson. I thank all those who have signed up for the bible study. The more you show interest, the more I am encouraged to cater to your needs. Lent is a good time to begin something of this nature - to reflect and pray with the Word of God. There is a new Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles starting February 29th. This will be in preparation for the Easter Season 2024.

Diaconate Ordination of Randy Gamboa Espinoza: Our bishop ordained Seminarian Randy to the Diaconate on the 22nd of February at 7pm in Mary, Mother of God Church, Hillsborough. I thank all our parishioners that took part in the mass and wished him well and all those who prayed for him that day. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Ordinary Maintenance Projects: Our sincere thanks to Kevin Perna and John Stana in helping out with regular maintenance at School. We also thank Kevin Duddy and Larry Coyle in meeting with roofers with maintenance of our church buildings. We have two groups of volunteers formed last week and started cleaning the three rooms that are in the Choir-loft area which were in bad shape. We also started working on the floor in Mercy Hall. I thank all the volunteers who have signed up to help our parish. If you would like to be volunteer or help us with any of these projects in any way, please call me or write to me. Your help and prayers are much appreciated!

¡Querida familia!

Mientras los años A, B y C de Cuaresma reflexionaron sobre las 'Tentaciones de Jesús' el primer domingo de Cuaresma, los años A, B y C de Cuaresma el segundo domingo reflexionamos sobre el 'Misterio de la Transfiguración de Jesús'. Uno de los puntos focales que me llamó la atención es el camino de los discípulos. Pedro, Santiago y Juan eran pescadores. Estaban acostumbrados a la profundidad del océano, al frío del agua y a la suavidad de la arena. Fueron guiados por Jesús para experimentar algo tan contrastante y diferente al de un pescador promedio. En su camino hacia la montaña, experimentaron la imponente altura de la montaña, el calor de las rocas y la dureza de las piedras y las espinas.

Esta experiencia fue tan nueva y extraña que Pedro gritó: “¡Señor, es bueno estar aquí!”. Es una expresión asombrosa de un pescador que estaba tan acostumbrado al océano, la arena y el agua. La Cuaresma es un tiempo maravilloso para todos los que podemos asociarnos con Pedro y clamar: '¡Señor! ¡Qué bueno estar aquí!

Esta "experiencia de Transfiguración" se complementa con la "experiencia abrahámica" que reflejamos en la primera lectura de hoy. Abraham hizo un largo camino desde el anhelo y anhelo de tener un hijo hasta ofrecerlo a Dios, esa obediencia, esa madurez en la fe, esa disposición de corazón y esa determinación de sacrificar cualquier cosa para la Gloria de Dios no pasó desapercibida. Dios recompensó a Abraham con las gracias para ser el Padre de la fe. A Abraham se le dio el anticipo de la salvación de Dios para la humanidad a través de la propia ofrenda de Dios del Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo nuestro Señor. Como vemos en la fe, la nueva experiencia de los discípulos los lleva a una presencia imponente de la Trinidad. Dejemos que nuestra nueva experiencia de Cuaresma traiga a Dios en todo lo que hacemos.

La Charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico fue el 20 de febrero a las 4:30 pm: Agradecemos sinceramente al P. Matthew Marinelli por aceptar venir a nuestra parroquia para la charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico de este mes. Nuestra intención era centrarnos este mes en nuestros niños en la formación de la fe y fomentar sus vocaciones a través de los sacerdotes jóvenes de nuestra diócesis. A medida que profundizamos en la temporada de Cuaresma, les pido que consideren en oración asistir a estas charlas espirituales: son una vez al mes y solo una hora al mes. Conoces a otros feligreses y tienes la oportunidad de aprender tu fe en una comunidad. Sigo fomentando el aprendizaje comunitario, ya que es indispensable para nuestra fe.

Estudio Bíblico: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Como probablemente sepa, se necesitan horas de preparación para preparar una lección. Agradezco a todos aquellos que se han inscrito en este estudio. Cuanto más muestre interés, más me animaré a satisfacer sus necesidades. La Cuaresma es un buen momento para comenzar algo de esta naturaleza: reflexionar y orar con la Palabra de Dios. Hay un nuevo Estudio Bíblico sobre los Hechos de los Apóstoles a partir del 29 de febrero. Esto será en preparación para la temporada de Pascua de 2024.

Agradezco a todos nuestros feligreses que participaron en la misa y le desearon lo mejor a él y a todos los que oraron por él ese día. Por favor continúe manteniéndolo en sus oraciones.

Proyectos de mantenimiento: Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a Kevin Perna y John Stana por ayudar con el mantenimiento regular de la escuela. También agradecemos a Kevin Duddy y Larry Coyle por reunirse con los techadores para el mantenimiento de los edificios de nuestra iglesia. Tenemos dos grupos de voluntarios formados la semana pasada y comenzamos a limpiar los tres salones que están en la zona del Coro-loft que estaban en mal estado. También comenzamos a trabajar en el piso de Mercy Hall. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que se han inscrito para ayudar a nuestra parroquia.
