Dear Family!

The general focus of the readings today is Love. Popularly we hear that love involves more than one person. Aristotle thought of love as a union, saying “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” Annette Baier in her book ‘Unsafe Loves’ writes of love as not just an emotion people feel toward other people, but also a complex tying together of the emotions that two or a few more people have; it is a special form of emotional interdependence.

But the Agape Love that God shows us and invites us to participate is a willful choice we make in our response to his love. We are loved, and that is why we love in return. As Saint Irenaeus says, “The glory of God is a person fully alive” - A person is only fully alive when full of love. Such a person reflects best the God who is Love.

God shared this love and invited our children to respond to His love during the First Holy Communion mass. This is also the month we honor our Mother and practice the Rosary devotion. As we wish our children a wonderful life of faith in God’s abiding love, let us be convince that God’s unconditional love needs to be shared.

Our love can have depth only if it constantly finds meaning in God’s love. Every sharing of love in the family springs from God’s love. On my ordination day, in the ceremony, the Archbishop asked me a question about my commitment; the answer was ‘I am, with the help of God’. The wedding vows you take are always accompanied by God’s help and care. A Christian can never be termed as ‘Charitably challenged’! Don’t we want to be certain of God’s love or Is God’s love is onesided? God’s love remains, what about my love?

Catholic School Week (Jan 28 - Feb 3): We just concluded the Catholic School Week last Sunday. Our principal and students at the 11am Mass gave a presentation on the importance of Catholic Education and its influence in our community. As a follow up we will be sending a group to the near-by parishes in following Sundays to spread the good word and attempt to increase our enrollment. As I shared at the mass on Sunday, it is our school, and we all have the responsibility to work as a team to give the best for our children and be involved in Catholic Education.

Eucharistic Revival Seminar is on February 13th 4:30pm: Our next seminar on the Eucharist is titled “Foundational teachings from the Eucharistic Prayers”. We will have two priests ordained from our diocese. These young men are coming to our parish to talk to us of the importance of Eucharist from their vocational journey that helped them to become priests.

These young priests are invited first and foremost to foster vocations in our parish - We will host this seminar in place of Faith Formation (CCD) so all the children and parents can attend this event. I request all parishioners to join us! Your presence will help the spirituality of our children. I continue to encourage community learning as it is indispensable for our faith.

New Bible Study: All are welcome! There is a new Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles, book by William S. Kurz, SJ, starting February 29th. This will be in preparation for the Easter Season 2024.

National Marriage Week (7th to 14th of February) Each year, National Marriage Week USA and World Marriage Day provide an opportunity for the Catholic Church to focus on and celebrate the vocation to marriage and family life. This year, National Marriage Week USA will be celebrated February 7-14 and World Marriage Day, which is commemorated on the second Sunday of February, will be celebrated on February 11. The theme for this year’s celebration of National Marriage Week is “Love Beyond Words,” which recalls the self-sacrificing love in marriage that is rooted in the wedding promises that the couple makes in matrimony.

Other important days to keep in mind: The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has designated February 8th to remember and pray for the awareness against Human Trafficking. On February 11th, we celebrate the World Day of the Sick. Please find the summary of Pope Francis’ reflection on this year’s World Day of the Sick. On the 22nd we celebrate the Feast of the Chair of Peter - On this day, our Bishop is ordaining Randy Gamboa Espinoza to the Diaconate. It will be at Mary, Mother of God Church, in Hillsborough at 7pm. You are all invited to attend the mass and wish Randy the best!

Ordinary Maintenance Projects: We are looking into removing of old carpet in our Chapel and replacing it with hardwood. We also need to do some maintenance work at the Sacristy. We are also looking into repairing the floor in Mercy Hall. These are all Ordinary Maintenance projects, something simple, not a major undertaking. Your prayers and support are always needed! If you would like to volunteer in any of these projects, you are most welcome to come talk to me by calling the church office to set up an appointment.

¡Querida familia!

El enfoque general de las lecturas de hoy es el amor. Popularmente escuchamos que el amor involucra a más de una persona. Aristóteles pensaba en el amor como una unión y decía: "El amor se compone de una sola alma que habita dos cuerpos". Annette Baier en su libro 'Unsafe Loves' escribe sobre el amor no solo como una emoción que las personas sienten hacia otras personas, sino también como una unión compleja de las emociones que tienen dos o unas pocas personas más; es una forma especial de interdependencia emocional.

Pero el amor ágape que Dios nos muestra y nos invita a participar es una elección voluntaria que hacemos en nuestra respuesta a su amor. Somos amados y por eso amamos a cambio. Como dice San Ireneo, “La gloria de Dios es una persona plenamente viva” - Una persona sólo está plenamente viva cuando está llena de amor. Una persona así refleja mejor al Dios que es amor.

Dios compartió este amor e invitó a nuestros hijos a responder a Su amor durante la misa de la Primera Comunión. Este es también el mes en que honramos a nuestra Madre y practicamos la devoción del Rosario. Mientras deseamos a nuestros hijos una vida maravillosa de fe en el amor permanente de Dios, convenzamos de que el amor incondicional de Dios debe ser compartido.

Nuestro amor puede tener profundidad sólo si constantemente encuentra significado en el amor de Dios. Todo compartir de amor en la familia brota del amor de Dios. El día de mi ordenación, en la ceremonia, el Arzobispo me hizo una pregunta sobre mi compromiso; la respuesta fue “Yo soy, con la ayuda de Dios”. Los votos matrimoniales que haces siempre van acompañados de la ayuda y el cuidado de Dios. ¡Un cristiano nunca puede ser llamado “desafiado caritativamente”! ¿No queremos estar seguros del amor de Dios o es el amor de Dios unilateral? El amor de Dios permanece, ¿y mi amor?

Semana de la Escuela Católica (28 de enero - 3 de febrero): Acabamos de concluir la Semana de la Escuela Católica el domingo pasado. Nuestro director y estudiantes en la Misa de las 11 am dieron una presentación sobre la importancia de la Educación Católica y su influencia en nuestra comunidad. Como seguimiento, enviaremos un grupo a las parroquias cercanas los domingos siguientes para difundir la buena palabra e intentar aumentar nuestra inscripción. Como compartí en la misa del domingo, es nuestra escuela y todos tenemos la responsabilidad de trabajar en equipo para dar lo mejor a nuestros hijos y participar en la educación católica.

La charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico es el 13 de febrero a las 4:30 pm: Nuestra próxima charla sobre la Eucaristía se titula “Enseñanzas fundamentales de las Oraciones Eucarísticas”. Tendremos dos sacerdotes ordenados para nuestra diócesis. Estos jóvenes vienen a nuestra parroquia para hablarnos de la importancia de la Eucaristía desde su camino vocacional que los ayudó a ser sacerdotes. Estos jóvenes sacerdotes están invitados ante todo a fomentar las vocaciones en nuestra parroquia. Organizaremos este seminario en lugar de Formación de Fe (CCD) para que todos los niños y padres puedan asistir a este evento. ¡Solicito a todos los feligreses que se unan a nosotros! Tu presencia ayudará a la espiritualidad de nuestros hijos. Sigo fomentando el aprendizaje comunitario, ya que es indispensable para nuestra fe.

Nuevo Estudio Bíblico: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Hay un nuevo Estudio Bíblico sobre los Hechos de los Apóstoles, libro de William S. Kurz, SJ, a partir del 29 de febrero. Esto será en preparación para la temporada de Pascua de 2024.

Semana Nacional del Matrimonio (7 al 14 de febrero) Cada año, la Semana Nacional del Matrimonio de EE. UU. y el Día Mundial del Matrimonio brindan una oportunidad para que la Iglesia Católica se concentre y celebre la vocación al matrimonio y la vida familiar. Este año, la Semana Nacional del Matrimonio en EE. UU. se celebrará del 7 al 14 de febrero y el Día Mundial del Matrimonio, que se conmemora el segundo domingo de febrero, se celebrará el 11 de febrero.

El tema de la celebración de este año La Semana del Matrimonio es “Amor más allá de las palabras”, que recuerda el amor abnegado en el matrimonio que tiene sus raíces en las promesas matrimoniales que la pareja hace en el matrimonio.

Otros días importantes para tener en cuenta: El Pontificio Consejo Justicia y Paz y la Unión Internacional de Superiores Generales han designado el 8 de febrero para recordar y orar por la sensibilización contra la Trata de Personas. El 11 de febrero celebramos la Jornada Mundial del Enfermo. Encuentre el resumen de la reflexión del Papa Francisco sobre la Jornada Mundial del Enfermo de este año. El día 22 celebramos la Fiesta de la Cátedra de Pedro - En este día, nuestro Obispo ordena al Diaconado a Randy Gamboa Espinoza. Será en la Iglesia María, Madre de Dios, en Hillsborough a las 7 pm. ¡Están todos invitados a asistir a la misa y desearle lo mejor a Randy!

Proyectos de mantenimiento: Estamos considerando quitar la alfombra vieja de nuestra Capilla y reemplazarla con madera dura. También necesitamos hacer algunos trabajos de mantenimiento en la Sacristía. También estamos considerando reparar el piso en Mercy Hall. Todos estos son proyectos de Mantenimiento Ordinario, algo simple, no una gran empresa. ¡Sus oraciones y apoyo siempre son necesarios! Si desea ser voluntario en cualquiera de estos proyectos, puede venir a hablar conmigo llamando a la oficina de la iglesia para programar una cita.
