Dear Family!

God’s laws are the outward expression of the covenant. Most human laws have limitations and loopholes. There are and will be different ways of interpreting those human laws contrary to its original intent. There have been and continue to be many attempts to turn and twist the original intent of God’s law that have been handed down to us. That is the reason Prophet Jeremiah longed for a better way to communicate God’s Law: “I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts.”

As we grow deeper into the mystery of the season of Lent, we grow in maturity and come to a deeper realization of God. The first reading spells out what it would take to be people of the Covenant. As God called me into a solemn covenantal relationship with Him, my life (words, actions and intentions) need to reflect the sentiments of the Covenant. Jesus in the Gospel reveals to us that He is the embodiment of the law, that people learn from Jesus how to live the Covenantal Life.

Jesus is seen with the Father in His Creative Spirit. Everything comes from God. By cleansing the Temple, Jesus shows himself that he cares for the human-race. A certain cleansing is needed to be part of the Covenantal Life. The very act of cleansing is powerful - He is our Lord and God! God creates everything with a great love. Our births are acts of God’s great love. The God who gave you life, saves you and purifies you. He washes our sins with his blood. That is how he cleanses us.

Jesus does not say, ‘I will tear down this temple’, instead, ‘if you destroy this temple’. Destruction has been part of our nature. But cleansing, rebuilding and purifying have been the response of God, because God loves and cares for us. Let us find ways to respond to that creative, cleansing love of God.

First Scrutiny for the RCIA Catechumens On the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent, Catholic Churches with adults preparing to be baptized at the Easter Vigil will perform three successive rites called “the Scrutinies”. These rites, with roots dating back to the early Church, are part of a larger process called the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) or by the new name since 2021, Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA). In our parish, we pray for our three catechumens Preston Cryan, Emmanuel Sostre, & Tairina Paul as they prepare themselves to receive baptism. Please remember all the catechumens and candidates that are receiving their sacraments at Easter Vigil. For Scrutinies, the readings from YEAR A are used at mass.

Bible Study on Mark: All are welcome! As you probably know, it takes hours of preparation to put together one lesson. I thank all those who have signed up for these study. The more you show interest, the more I am encouraged to cater to your needs. Lent is a good time to begin something of this nature - to reflect and pray with the Word of God. We have begun the new Bible Study on The Acts of the Apostles last Thursday. It is never too late to join the study. Every time you participate you would appreciate the rich treasures of the Wisdom of the Word of God. This will be in preparation for the Easter Season 2024.

Eucharistic Revival Seminar Our next Eucharistic Revival Seminar will take place on Wednesday, March 13th starting at 6:30pm for fellowship and refreshments in Mercy Hall then continues 7pm in the church at for the seminar. All are welcome to come!

Ordinary Maintenance Projects: Our sincere thanks to Santos Aguirre, Luis Gomez, Alan Jovani, Daniel Erazo, William Hernandez, Jeferson Perez, Abraham Sarmiento, Felipe Quizihpi, Jose Luis Alfaro, David Morales, Jobanna, Francisco & Gladys Jaurides, Nancy Ensley, Diane & Duane Volk and Kevin Duddy for volunteering in replacing a section of Mercy Hall floor and also did a thorough cleaning on the three rooms above the choir loft. At least seven of these volunteers worked until 7pm on Saturday. We thank all of them for their handwork and generosity.

¡Querida familia!

Las leyes de Dios son la expresión exterior del convenio. La mayoría de las leyes humanas tienen limitaciones y lagunas. Hay y habrá diferentes maneras de interpretar esas leyes humanas contrarias a su intención original. Ha habido y sigue habiendo muchos intentos de cambiar y tergiversar la intención original de la ley de Dios que nos ha sido transmitida. Esa es la razón por la que el profeta Jeremías anhelaba una mejor manera de comunicar la Ley de Dios: “Pondré mi ley dentro de ellos, y la escribiré en sus corazones”.

A medida que profundizamos en el misterio de la temporada de cuaresma, crecemos en madurez y llegamos a una comprensión más profunda de Dios. La primera lectura explica lo que se necesitaría para ser pueblo del convenio. Como Dios me llamó a una relación de convenio solemne con Él, mi vida (palabras, acciones e intenciones) deben reflejar los sentimientos del convenio. Jesús en el evangelio nos revela que Él es la encarnación de la ley, que las personas aprenden de Jesús cómo vivir la vida del convenio.

Jesús es visto con el padre en su espíritu creativo. Todo viene de Dios. Al limpiar el templo, Jesús se muestra a sí mismo que se preocupa por la raza humana. Se necesita cierta limpieza para ser parte de la vida del convenio. El mismo acto de limpieza es poderoso: ¡Él es nuestro Señor y Dios! Dios crea todo con un gran amor. Nuestros nacimientos son actos del gran amor de Dios. El Dios que nos dio la vida, nos salva y nos purifica. Él lava nuestros pecados con su sangre. Así nos limpia.

Jesús no dice: "Yo derribaré este templo", sino "si tú destruyes este templo". La destrucción ha sido parte de nuestra naturaleza. Pero la limpieza, la reconstrucción y la purificación han sido la respuesta de Dios, porque Dios nos ama y nos cuida. Encontremos maneras de responder a ese amor creativo y limpiador de Dios.

Primer escrutinio para los catecúmenos de RICA El tercer, cuarto y quinto domingo de cuaresma, las iglesias católicas con adultos que se preparan para ser bautizados en la vigilia pascual realizarán tres ritos sucesivos llamados “los escrutinios”. Estos ritos, con raíces que se remontan a la iglesia primitiva, son parte de un proceso más amplio llamado Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (RICA) o con el nuevo nombre desde 2021, Orden de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos (OCIA). En nuestra parroquia, oramos por nuestros tres catecúmenos Preston Cryan, Emmanuel Sostre y Tairina Paul mientras se preparan para recibir el bautismo. Recuerde a todos los catecúmenos y candidatos que estará recibiendo sus sacramentos en la vigilia pascual. Para los escrutinios se utilizan las lecturas del año A en misa.

Estudio Bíblico sobre Marcos: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Como probablemente sepa, se necesitan horas de preparación para preparar una lección. Agradezco a todos aquellos que se han inscrito en este estudio. Cuanto más muestre interés, más me animaré a satisfacer sus necesidades. La cuaresma es un buen momento para comenzar algo de esta naturaleza: reflexionar y orar con la palabra de Dios. Hemos comenzado el nuevo estudio bíblico sobre los Hechos de los Apóstoles el jueves pasado. Nunca es demasiado tarde para unirse al estudio. Cada vez que participes apreciarás los ricos tesoros de la sabiduría de la palabra de Dios. Esto será en preparación para la temporada de pascua de 2024.

Charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico Nuestra próxima charla de avivamiento eucarístico se llevará a cabo el miércoles 13 de marzo a partir de las 6:30 pm con compañerismo y refrigerios en Mercy Hall y luego continuará a las 7 pm en la iglesia para la charla. ¡Todos son bienvenidos!

Al menos siete de estos voluntarios trabajaron hasta las siete de la noche del sábado. Agradecemos a todos por su labor y su generosidad.
