Dear Family!

As we begin Holy Week 2024, let us be reminded that we strive to be holy in both word and deed as holiness is overwhelmingly internal. We see Jesus marching into Jerusalem and people welcoming Jesus with palms in their hands as palms stand for victory. They want Jesus to win a war! Little did they know what he is waging the war against! We may be preoccupied with palms that we may forget the presence and importance of the donkey.

Let us be reminded that those palms are actually for peace - the royal anthem of Jesus is peace! ‘Donkey’ is traditionally seen in the Eastern concept as the image of peace and humility. This is about time our hands hold fast to the palms that are oriented towards the donkey as our Lord and Savior rides into the inroads of our hearts.

The Readings are organized uniquely as the 1st and 2nd readings are the same every year (Isaiah 50:4-7 & Phil 2:6-11) but the Passion Reading is taken from St. Mark this year. On Good Friday, every year we read from the Gospel of John.

Jesus’ ‘triumphal entry’ seem like a mockery and a political satire on human craving for power and dominion. Jesus, in orchestrating the whole event of ‘entry into Jerusalem’ teaches us that he humbly rejects pomp and wealth, and violence but loves to identify with poor. Good social order is possible when we hear and put to work the Word of God.

Our Prayers for RCIA Candidates & a Sincere thanks to our RCIA Team! I thank Deacon Larry and the whole team of volunteers in guiding the RCIA team. As these new Candidates are incorporated into our community of worshippers it is all the more necessary and it is our obligation to pray for Preston Cryan, Emmanuel Sostre & Tairina Paul. Please remember all the candidates who have received their sacraments at Easter Vigil.

Bible Study on The Acts of the Apostles: All are welcome! As you probably know it takes hours of preparation to put together a Bible Study. I thank all those who have signed up for these studies. Every Thursday at 1:30 pm in Mercy Hall we gather to study the scripture. It is never too late to join the study.

Every time you participate you will appreciate the rich treasures of the Wisdom of the Word of God. This will be in preparation for the Easter Season 2024.

Confessions As you are aware we have confessions on Saturdays both in the morning and in the afternoon, I extend the invitation to all the Sacrament of Confession during the week also. It is never too late to go to confession. The priests are available during office hours on weekdays. Please call the parish office for more information.

Eucharistic Renewal: The next Seminar will be on April 10th, 6:30 pm. The topic we will reflect and learn together is “Eucharist is a Community Prayer” presented by Monsignor John Gordon. As I always encourage all of you - community learning is integral to our faith. Please make an effort to be part of the community and learn together. We started the Eucharistic Revival Seminars in our parish in May, 2023 and the next seminar would complete one full year of community learning. We will continue to spend this precious time every month for prayer and reflection. We are about four months away from the National Eucharistic Congress. Ordinary Maintenance Projects: We have formed a volunteer group to paint the front doors of the church in the Spring. I thank all the volunteers who signed up for this project. Our chapel renovation will be starting soon as we are working to get the schedule ready to relocate adoration opportunities for parishioners. Now that the floor of Mercy Hall is repaired we have started to renovate the bathrooms on the 3rd floor. I thank all the volunteers who were part of this project. It is an old building and in need of constant maintenance. Skilled people such as painters, electricians, plumbers and carpenters are all welcomed to volunteer in these projects.

¡Querida familia!

Al comenzar la Semana Santa de 2024, recordemos que nos esforzamos por ser santos tanto en palabra como en obra, ya que la santidad es abrumadoramente interna. Vemos a Jesús marchando hacia Jerusalén y la gente recibió a Jesús con palmas en las manos mientras las palmas representan la victoria. ¡Quieren que Jesús gane una guerra! ¡Poco sabían contra qué está librando la guerra! Es posible que estemos tan preocupados con las palmas que olvidemos la presencia y la importancia del burro.

Recordemos que esas palmas en realidad son por la paz: ¡el himno real de Jesús es la paz! El "burro" se considera tradicionalmente en el concepto oriental como la imagen de la paz y la humildad. Ya es hora de que nuestras manos se aferren a las palmas que están orientadas hacia el burro mientras nuestro Señor y Salvador cabalga hacia las incursiones de nuestros corazones.

Las Lecturas están organizadas de manera única ya que la 1.ª y 2.ª lectura son las mismas todos los años (Isaías 50:4-7 y Fil. 2:6-11), pero la Lectura de la Pasión está tomada de San Marcos este año. Cada año leemos para el Viernes Santo el Evangelio de Juan.

La “entrada triunfal” de Jesús parece una burla y una sátira política sobre el anhelo humano de poder y dominio. Jesús, al orquestar todo el evento de la “entrada en Jerusalén”, nos enseña que él humildemente rechaza la pompa, la riqueza y la violencia, pero le encanta identificarse con los pobres. El buen orden social es posible cuando escuchamos y ponemos en práctica la Palabra de Dios.

¡Nuestras oraciones por los candidatos de RICA y un sincero agradecimiento al equipo de RICA! Agradezco al Diácono Larry y a todo el equipo de voluntarios por guiar al equipo de RICA. A medida que estos nuevos Candidatos se incorporan a nuestra comunidad de fieles, es aún más necesario y nuestra obligación orar por Preston Cryan, Emmanuel Sostre y Tairina Paul. Recuerde a todos los candidatos que han recibido sus sacramentos en la Vigilia Pascual.

Estudio Bíblico sobre Los Hechos de los Apóstoles: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Como probablemente sepa, se necesitan horas de preparación para organizar un estudio bíblico. Agradezco a todos aquellos que se han inscrito en este estudio. Todos los jueves a la 1:30 pm en Mercy Hall nos reunimos para estudiar las Escrituras. Nunca es demasiado tarde para unirse al estudio. Cada vez que participes apreciarás los ricos tesoros de la Sabiduría de la Palabra de Dios. Esto será en preparación para la temporada de Pascua de 2024.

Confesiones Como saben que tenemos confesiones los sábados tanto por la mañana como por la tarde, extiendo la invitación a todos al Sacramento de la Confesión también durante la semana. Nunca es demasiado tarde para confesarse. Los sacerdotes están disponibles durante el horario de oficina de lunes a viernes. Por favor llame a la oficina parroquial para obtener más información.

Avivamiento Eucarística: La próxima charla será el 10 de abril a las 6:30 pm. El tema que reflexionaremos y aprenderemos juntos es “La Eucaristía es una oración comunitaria” presentado por Monseñor John Gordon. Como siempre los aliento a todos ustedes, el aprendizaje comunitario es parte integral de nuestra fe. Haga un esfuerzo por ser parte de la comunidad y aprender juntos. Comenzamos las charlas de Avivamiento Eucarístico en nuestra parroquia en mayo de 2023 y la próxima charla completaría un año completo de aprendizaje comunitario. Continuaremos dedicando este precioso tiempo cada mes a la oración y la reflexión. Estamos a unos cuatro meses del Congreso Eucarístico Nacional. Proyectos de mantenimiento: Hemos formado un grupo de voluntarios para pintar las puertas de entrada de la iglesia en primavera. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que se inscribieron en este proyecto. La renovación de nuestra capilla comenzará pronto mientras estamos trabajando para preparar el cronograma para reubicar las oportunidades de adoración para los feligreses. Ahora que el piso de Mercy Hall está reparado, hemos comenzado a renovar los baños en el 3er piso. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que fueron parte de este proyecto. Es un edificio antiguo y necesita mantenimiento constante. Personas cualificadas como pintores, electricistas, fontaneros y carpinteros son bienvenidas como voluntarias en estos proyectos.
