Dear Family!

We are witnesses! This is the theme we reflect and pray about this third Sunday of Easter. Every age has seen its own witnessing spirit of Christians after the Resurrection of Jesus. The word ‘Martyr’ in Greek means one who bears witness (to Christ). We bear witness to Christ’s resurrection; we are also witness to Christ who by rising on the third day gave us the graces of repentance and forgiveness.

In the first reading, Peter’s witnessing takes us to acknowledge that Jesus is the Suffering Servant of Isaiah and the scriptures fulfilled in the saving action of Jesus through his death and resurrection. By believing in Jesus’ resurrection, we are given strength to keep the commandments; we experience the truth in us; and God’s love is truly perfected in us. (2nd Reading)

Aren’t we like the apostles? We won’t believe unless we can see with our own eyes. The Gospel accounts attest to the reality of the resurrection of Jesus from the grave. Jesus goes to great lengths to assure his disciples that he is no mere ghost or illusion. He shows them the marks of his crucifixion and he explains how the Scriptures foretold his death and rising. We are drawn closer to the Church’s mission to witness for Christ in their word and deed. As we gather at the Lord ’s Table, we ask ourselves, “Are not our hearts burning within us now that he has opened the Scriptures to us and is about to take, bless, break and give us the bread of life?”

Our Prayers for RCIA Candidates & a Sincere thanks to RCIA Team! As these new Candidates are incorporated into our community of worshippers it is all the more necessary and it is our obligation to pray for Preston Cryan, Emmanuel Sostre & Tarina Paul. Please remember all the candidates who have received their sacraments at Easter Vigil.

Bible Study on The Acts of the Apostles:  All are welcome! As you probably know that it takes hours of preparation to put together theBible Study. I thank all of those who have signed up for these studies. Every Thursday at 1:30pm in Mercy Hall we gather to study the scripture. It is never too late to join the studies. Every time you participate you will appreciate the rich treasures of the Wisdom of the Word of God. This will be in preparation for the Easter Season 2024.

Confession: In addition to our regular confession time (Saturday 10am and 3:15pm) I have added weekdsay confessions during office hours (Monday to Friday) so that people will have more opportunities to avail the Sacrament. It was good to see long lines for confessions during Divine Mercy celebrations. I thank all the volunteers and Deacon Francisco for helping us with Divine Mercy Devotions. Please call the office for more confession opportunities. Priests are available to journey with you!

First Penance: Last Saturday we had 1st Penance for our children preparing to receive First Communion in May this year. I thank all the parents for providing this beautiful opportunity for their children. My special gratitude to our Faith Formation Team and in a special way Diane Volk for preparing the children in teaching them all the prayers. It was wonderful to see all the children reciting the Act of Contrition by heart. I wish this would encourage our older kids (and some adults) to learn our traditional prayers.

Eucharistic Renewal: I thank Monsignor John Gordon for accepting our invitation and coming to our parish for the Eucharistic Seminar for April. The topic was “Eucharist is a Community Prayer”. Since it was bilingual we had our Hispanic families participate in it. As I always encourage all of you - community learning is integral to our faith. We started the Eucharistic Revival Seminars in our parish in May, 2023, thus we completed one full year of community learning. Our Bishop will be here for Confirmation: On Tuesday, April 23rd, our Bishop will be confirming all our Confirmandi at 5pm Mass in our Church. Please make every effort to participate in the Mass and greet our Bishop on this special visit.

Ordinary Maintenance Projects: Our chapel renovation will be starting soon as we are working to get schedule ready to relocate adoration opportunities for parishioners. I thank all the volunteers who continue to care for our facilities. Skilled people such as painters, electricians, plumbers and carpenters are all welcomed to volunteer in these projects.

Tercer Domingo de Pascua

¡Querida familia!

¡Somos testigos! Este es el tema por el que reflexionamos y oramos en este tercer domingo de Pascua. Cada época ha visto su propio espíritu de testimonio de los cristianos después de la Resurrección de Jesús. La palabra "mártir" en griego significa alguien que da testimonio (de Cristo). Damos testimonio de la resurrección de Cristo; también somos testigos de Cristo que al resucitar al tercer día nos dio las gracias del arrepentimiento y del perdón.

En la primera lectura, el testimonio de Pedro nos lleva a reconocer que Jesús es el Siervo sufriente de Isaías y las Escrituras cumplidas en la acción salvadora de Jesús a través de su muerte y resurrección. Al creer en la resurrección de Jesús, recibimos fuerza para guardar los mandamientos; experimentamos la verdad en nosotros; y el amor de Dios se perfecciona verdaderamente en nosotros. (Segunda Lectura)

¿No somos como los apóstoles? No creeremos a menos que podamos verlo con nuestros propios ojos. Los relatos de los Evangelios dan fe de la realidad de la resurrección de Jesús de la tumba. Jesús hace todo lo posible para asegurar a sus discípulos que él no es un mero fantasma o una ilusión. Les muestra las marcas de su crucifixión y les explica cómo las Escrituras predijeron su muerte y resurrección. Nos acercamos más a la misión de la Iglesia de dar testimonio de Cristo en sus palabras y obras. Mientras nos reunimos en la Mesa del Señor, nos preguntamos: “¿No arde nuestro corazón dentro de nosotros ahora que Él nos ha abierto las Escrituras y está a punto de tomar, bendecir, partir y darnos el pan de vida?”

¡Nuestras oraciones por los candidatos de RICA y un sincero agradecimiento al equipo de RICA! A medida que estos nuevos Candidatos se incorporan a nuestra comunidad de fieles, es aún más necesario y nuestra obligación orar por Preston Cryan, Emmanuel Sostre y Tarina Paul. Estudio Bíblico sobre Los Hechos de los Apóstoles: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Como probablemente saben, se horas de preparación para preparar el estudio bíblico. Agradezco a todos aquellos que se han inscrito en este estudio. Todos los jueves a la 1:30 pm en Mercy Hall nos reunimos para estudiar las Escrituras. Nunca es demasiado tarde para incorporarse a los estudios. Cada vez que participes apreciarás los ricos tesoros de la Sabiduría de la Palabra de Dios. Esto será en preparación para la temporada de Pascua de 2024.

Confesiones: Además de nuestro horario habitual de confesión (sábado a las 10 am y 3:15 pm.), he agregado confesiones entre semana durante el horario de oficina (de lunes a viernes) para que las personas tengan más oportunidades de aprovechar el Sacramento. Fue bueno ver largas colas para confesarse durante las celebraciones de la Divina Misericordia. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios y al Diácono Francisco por ayudarnos con los Devocionales de la Divina Misericordia. Llame a la oficina para obtener más oportunidades de confesión. ¡Los sacerdotes están disponibles para viajar contigo!

Primera Penitencia El sábado pasado tuvimos la Primera Penitencia para nuestros niños que se preparan para recibir la Primera Comunión en mayo de este año. Agradezco a todos los padres por brindar esta hermosa oportunidad a sus hijos. Mi agradecimiento especial a nuestro Equipo de Formación de Fe y de manera especial a Diane Volk por preparar a los niños para enseñarles todas las oraciones. Fue maravilloso ver a todos los niños recitando de memoria el Acto de Contrición. Ojalá esto animara a nuestros niños mayores (y a algunos adultos) a aprender nuestras oraciones tradicionales.

Avivamiento Eucarístico: Agradezco a Monseñor John Gordon por aceptar nuestra invitación y venir a nuestra parroquia para la charla eucarístico de abril. El tema fue “La Eucaristía es una oración comunitaria”. Como es bilingüe, nuestras familias hispanas participaron en él. Como siempre los animo a todos ustedes, el aprendizaje comunitario es parte integral de nuestra fe. Comenzamos las charlas de Avivamiento Eucarístico en nuestra parroquia en mayo de 2023, completando así un año completo de aprendizaje comunitario. Nuestro Obispo estará aquí para el Sacramento de Confirmación: El martes 23 de abril, nuestro Obispo confirmará a todos nuestros confirmandos en la Misa de las 5 pm en nuestra Iglesia. Haga todo lo posible para participar en la Misa y saludar a nuestro Obispo en esta visita especial.

Proyectos de mantenimiento: la renovación de nuestra capilla comenzará pronto mientras estamos trabajando para preparar el cronograma para reubicar las oportunidades de adoración para los feligreses. Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que siguen cuidando nuestras instalaciones. Personas cualificadas como pintores, electricistas, fontaneros y carpinteros son bienvenidas como voluntarias en estos proyectos.
