Confirmation
Confirmation is a Catholic Sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. It is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation for Catholics. It is most often associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Confirmation at St. Philip and St. James Church
Confirmation is sacrament in which the Holy Spirit strengthens us in a special way to help us live our faith in Jesus Christ. We at Saint Philip and Saint James are happy to do all we can to help our young brothers and sisters prepare for and receive this holy sacrament.
Confirmation is usually celebrated in the winter of 8th grade in our parish. Some preparation is necessary to celebrate this wonderful sacrament. Students in the eighth grade of Saints Philip and James School receive Confirmation preparation as part of their religion curriculum. Students in public school should attend at least two years of CCD (7th and 8th grades) to properly prepare for Confirmation.
Ideally, one should attend CCD (or Catholic School) from first through eighth grade to receive a thorough instruction in our faith in Jesus and His holy Catholic Church.
Students who have already passed the eighth grade but have not yet been Confirmed should speak with our pastor to make arrangements to receive their Confirmation. He will be happy to work out a plan for you.
Home schooled students should likewise contact our pastor to make arrangements to prepare for Confirmation. It is preferable that you do this by the beginning of 7th grade. He will be very happy to help you.
Questions about Confirmation may be directed to any of our priests, our Parish Catechetical Leader, or the parish office.
