Dear Family!

This Sunday as we celebrate the Solemnity of The Ascension of Our Lord, we reflect on the words of the Catechism of the Catholic Church 660, “First, it is clear that this is spoken of as a real, historical event. Christ was really taken up at a particular time in human history and from a particular place (the time was forty days after his Resurrection, the place was most likely Mount Olives near Jerusalem).

This was not simply a spiritual event, but this occurred within history. The Catechism calls to speak of “the historical and transcendent event of the Ascension."

Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers! I have said it earlier and I reiterate now that the Mothers are the backbone of the Church as Christ is the Life of the Church. Mothers are the greatest channels through which a family is blessed - children open their eyes of faith, husbands renew holiness of their vocations, fathers realize their full potential to be the best of teachers for their children.

Pope Francis wrote in his Apostolic Exhortation, ‘Amoris Laetitia’, “Mothers are the strongest antidote to the spread of self-centered individualism... It is they who testify to the beauty of life” Certainly, “a society without mothers would be dehumanized, for mothers are always, even in the worst of times, witnesses to tenderness, dedication, and moral strength. Mothers often communicate the deepest meaning of religious practice in the first prayers and acts of devotion that their children learn... Without mothers, not only would there be no new faithful, but the faith itself would lose a good part of its simple and profound warmth. Dear mothers: thank you! Thank you for who you are in your family and for what you give to the Church and the world”.

Mother's Day also reminds us of Mother’s Month. May is the month dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. Pope Francis encourages everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home in the month of May. Our prayers are with our children who have received their sacraments recently and also all those who have received their sacraments during Easter!

Sincere thanks to the parents & the Faith Formation Ministry: Please continue to remember all who have received their sacraments recently (at Easter Vigil, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion). Special word of thanks to our Faith Formation Ministry and all the Clergy for their support and encouragement. What God has begun in them must be nurtured and safe-guarded. I encourage all parents to participate in this important vocation.

Bible Study on The Acts of the Apostles: All are welcome! As you probably know that it takes hours of preparation to put together the Bible Study. I thank all those who have signed up for these studies. Every Thursday at 1:30pm in Mercy Hall we gather to study the scripture. It is never too late to join the study. Every time you participate you will appreciate the rich treasures of the Wisdom of the Word of God.

Eucharistic Renewal: I thank our 72 Disciples Ministry for hosting the seminar on May 8th. I also thank all those who have participated in the seminar in learning various aspects of understanding the Eucharist and the related Church teachings regarding the Eucharist. Our next Eucharistic Revival Seminar will be on Wednesday, June 12th at 6:30pm. I continue to encourage you to be part of this important community learning.

Garden Ministry: If you would like to join me in growing vegetables at the Rectory garden so the vegetables can be shared with the soup kitchen on Saturdays, please call the office. You are most welcome to be part of this important ministry. We are flexible with time, open to creativity, and believe in teamwork.

Ordinary Maintenance Projects: Our sincere thanks to all our volunteers, especially Larry Coyle for doing the much needed painting of the entrance doors of the Church. Also, we thank Michael Michnej for doing maintenance work in various places of church facilities. Our chapel renovation will be starting soon as we are working to get the schedule ready to relocate adoration opportunities for parishioners. Thank you for all your support and prayers!

Ascensión Del Señor

¡Querida familia!

Este domingo, al celebrar la Solemnidad de la Ascensión de Nuestro Señor, reflexionamos sobre las palabras del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica 660: “Primero, está claro que se habla de esto como un evento histórico real. Cristo fue realmente tomado en un momento particular de la historia humana y desde un lugar particular (el tiempo fue cuarenta días después de su Resurrección, el lugar probablemente fue el Monte de los Olivos, cerca de Jerusalén). Este no fue simplemente un evento espiritual sino que ocurrió dentro de la historia. La convocatoria del Catecismo habla del “acontecimiento histórico y trascendente de la Ascensión”.

¡Feliz Día de la Madre a todas nuestras madres! Lo he dicho antes y lo repito de nuevo que las madres son la columna vertebral de la Iglesia como Cristo es la Vida de la Iglesia. Las madres son el vínculo principal a través de los cuales una familia es bendecida: los hijos abren los ojos de la fe, los esposos renuevan la santidad de sus vocaciones, los padres realizan todo su potencial para ser los mejores maestros para sus hijos.

El día de la madre también nos recuerda el mes de la madre. Mayo es el mes dedicado a Nuestra Santísima Madre. El Papa Francisco anima a todos a redescubrir la belleza de rezar el Rosario en casa en el mes de mayo.

¡Nuestras oraciones están con nuestros niños que han recibido sus sacramentos recientemente y también con todos aquellos que han recibido sus sacramentos durante la Pascua!

Un sincero agradecimiento a los padres y al Ministerio de Formación de Fe: Continúe recordando a todos los que han recibido sus sacramentos recientemente (en la Vigilia Pascual, la Confirmación y la Primera Comunión). Un agradecimiento especial a nuestro Ministerio de Formación en la Fe y a todo el Clero por su apoyo y ánimo. Lo que Dios ha comenzado en ellos debe ser nutrido y salvaguardado. Estudio Bíblico sobre Los Hechos de los Apóstoles: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Como probablemente saben, se necesitan horas de preparación para preparar el estudio bíblico. Agradezco a todos aquellos que se han apuntado a estos estudios. Todos los jueves a la 1:30 pm en Mercy Hall nos reunimos para estudiar las Escrituras.
