Dear Family!

We profess in the Creed, ‘I believe in the Holy Spirit’. 1 Cor 12:3 states that “No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit” and Gal 4:6 states that “God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying ‘Abba Father’” (our attempts to be united to the Father). The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us “to be in touch with Christ, we must have been touched by the Holy Spirit.”

(683) We remember from Genesis that God as his final touch in creating a man by breathing in his nostrils to be alive. Jesus breathes on his Apostles and tells them ‘receive the Holy Spirit’: One corresponding and complementing each other.

Pope Benedict XVI reflected on Pentecost as, “This is the mystery of Pentecost: the Holy Spirit illuminates the human spirit and, by revealing Christ Crucified and Risen, indicates the way to become more like him, that is, to be "the image and instrument of the love which flows from Christ" (Deus Caritas Est n. 33). The catechism also teaches us that the Church was made manifest to the world on the day of Pentecost by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is a beautiful day to celebrate the universal nature of our Mother Church that God came for all of us, and the Good News and Salvation is preached and shared to every person. Pentecost is to be understood only in connection with the Passover as the Passover refers to the redemption, Pentecost in turn refers to the New Covenant. The 50th day was celebrated traditionally by the Jews as the feast of First-fruits and also most importantly the day was remembered as the day they received the Law from Sinai. Our First-fruits day is Pentecost, and it is this day we receive the New Covenant thus, it is “the espousal day” (George Smeaton) of the Christian Church.

Chapel Renovation: I thank all the volunteers who came to start the project by removing all the old carpet from the chapel. The chapel will have a nice wooden floor and a fresh coat of paint. I thank you for the donation to do this work and also for your support & prayers. We hope to finish this project in two weeks.

Church Doors: I thank Larry Coyle for volunteering to paint the main doors of the Church. The front doors are beautifully painted with a new color. We will power wash the front facade of the building in the near future.

Bible Study on The Acts of the Apostles: All are welcome! As you probably know that it takes hours of preparation to put together the Bible Study. I thank all those who have signed up for these studies. Every Thursday at 1:30pm in Mercy Hall we gather to study the scripture. It is never too late to join the study. Every time you participate you will appreciate the rich treasures of the Wisdom of the Word of God.

Eucharistic Renewal: Our next Eucharistic Revival Seminar will be on Wednesday, June 12th at 6:30 pm. I continue to encourage you to be part of this important community learning.

Garden Ministry: If you would like to join me in growing vegetables at the Rectory garden so the vegetables can be shared with the soup kitchen on Saturdays, please call the office. You are most welcome to be part of this important ministry. We are flexible with time, open to creativity, and believe in team-work.

Bishop’s Appeal: My sincere thanks to all of you for supporting our Bishop’s annual appeal 2024. So far we have pledged $51,170 which is 65% of our goal ($78,000). Thank you for your generosity. I am sure some of you are making their contributions in late May. I strongly encourage you to support our Bishop and all the people who will benefit from this appeal.

¡Querida familia!

Profesamos en el Credo, "Creo en el Espíritu Santo". 1 Cor 12:3 afirma que “nadie puede decir 'Jesús es Señor' sino por el Espíritu Santo” y Gálatas 4:6 afirma que “Dios envió a nuestros corazones el Espíritu de su Hijo, que clama 'Abba Padre'” (nuestros intentos de estar unidos al Padre). El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica nos enseña “para estar en contacto con Cristo, debemos haber sido tocados por el Espíritu Santo”. (683) Recordamos en Génesis que Dios como su toque final al crear al hombre al soplar en sus fosas nasales para estar vivo. Jesús sopla sobre sus Apóstoles y les dice “reciban el Espíritu Santo”: los dos correspondiéndose y complementándose.

El Papa Benedicto XVI reflexionó sobre Pentecostés como: “Este es el misterio de Pentecostés: el Espíritu Santo ilumina el espíritu humano y, al revelar a Cristo Crucificado y Resucitado, indica el camino para llegar a ser más como él, es decir, para ser "imagen e instrumento del amor que brota de Cristo" (Deus Caritas Est n. 33). El catecismo también nos enseña que la Iglesia se manifestó al mundo el día de Pentecostés por el derramamiento del Espíritu Santo.

Pentecostés es un hermoso día para celebrar el carácter universal de nuestra Iglesia Madre de que Dios vino por todos nosotros, y la Buena Nueva y la Salvación es predicada y compartida a cada persona. Pentecostés debe entenderse sólo en relación con la Pascua, ya que la Pascua se refiere a la redención, Pentecostés a su vez se refiere al Nuevo Pacto. Los judíos celebraban tradicionalmente el día 50 como la fiesta de las Primicias y, lo que es más importante, el día era recordado como el día en que recibieron la Ley del Sinaí. Nuestro día de las Primicias es Pentecostés, y es este día en el que recibimos el Nuevo Pacto, por lo tanto, es “el día del desposorio” (George Smeaton) de la Iglesia Cristiana.

Renovación de la Capilla: Agradezco a todos los voluntarios que vinieron para iniciar el proyecto quitando toda la alfombra vieja de la capilla. La capilla tendrá un bonito piso de madera y una nueva capa de pintura. Les agradezco la donación para hacer este trabajo y también por su apoyo y oraciones. Esperamos terminar este proyecto en dos semanas.

Puertas de la iglesia: Agradezco a Larry Coyle por ofrecerse como voluntario para pintar las puertas principales de la Iglesia. Las puertas de entrada están bellamente pintadas con un color nuevo. Lavaremos a presión la fachada frontal del edificio en un futuro próximo.

Estudio Bíblico sobre Los Hechos de los Apóstoles: ¡Todos son bienvenidos! Como probablemente sepa, se necesitan horas de preparación para preparar el estudio bíblico. Agradezco a todos aquellos que se han apuntado a estos estudios. Todos los jueves a la 1:30 pm en Mercy Hall nos reunimos para estudiar las Escrituras. Nunca es demasiado tarde para unirse al estudio. Cada vez que participes apreciarás los ricos tesoros de la Sabiduría de la Palabra de Dios.

Avivamiento Eucarístico: Nuestra próxima charla de Avivamiento Eucarístico será el miércoles 12 de junio a las 6:30 pm. Sigo animándolos a ser parte de este importante aprendizaje comunitario.

Ministerio de Jardinería: Si desea unirse a mí para cultivar vegetales en el jardín de la rectoría para poder compartirlos con el comedor de beneficencia los sábados, llame a la oficina. Eres bienvenido a ser parte de este importante ministerio. Somos flexibles con el tiempo, abiertos a la creatividad y creemos en el trabajo en equipo.
