Dear Family!

There is so much pressure on young people to develop an image of faith in themselves. Most of their friends do not go to church anymore; their parents are either divorced or not practicing Catholics; there is always a Sunday Sports in the morning (as Taxpayer, you cannot question the system). The young are forced to create their own excuses such as ‘headache, body pain, homework’ and the like.

Can we blame them entirely for their current mindset? They wonder, ‘I am the only young person! The rest of the church is filled with 50-plus crowd. This is not a place for me!’

I often wondered when people say, ‘God called him/her to serve!’. Some find it difficult to believe that God calls. If God could call Moses ‘a murderer’ to be one of the greatest prophets; if God could call David, ‘a selfish monster’ to be one of the greatest kings in the Bible; if God could call Saul ‘a jealous, revenge-seeking murderer’ to be one of the greatest missionary of the Catholic Church, you should not have a doubt that you are called. The readings this Sunday focus on the call of God.

Hesitating to respond to God’s call is common - Great personalities in the Bible & in History hesitated. But eventually, they responded. You are called to build the community! How would you do that? What does it mean when Pope Francis said, ‘The shepherds should smell like the sheep’. I smell like my sheep by getting to know them, to talk and relate to them, to plan and execute collective growth as people; encourage a culture of life in them.

Young people! Demand God-time from your parents! You are entitled to it. A parent who encourages God-time for their children acts holistically. You are called to be a disciple (A person who learns) but also you are called to be an apostle (A person who is sent from church to people with a message from God). And the message is - You.

Mrs. Sara Siano is appointed as the Principal of our School: After much reflection and discussion with parents and School Advisory Council I appoint Mrs. Sara Siano as the new principal for our school. Mrs. Siano has been the vice-principal of our school since under Mrs. Donna Kucinski. I thank Sara for accepting the responsibilities of Principal and will start August 1st. Our sincere thanks to Mrs. Patricia Bell for serving as our Principal till the end of the month and would move on to her next phase in life. We wish both of them our very best and pray for them as they assume new responsibilities.

Thanking the Welcoming Committee and Hispanic Committee!
I thank all the volunteers of the Welcoming Committee in hosting this event in welcoming Fr. Fredy! Thank you all for your support and prayers for Fr. Fredy as he starts his ministry in our parish. Special word of thanks to our Hispanic Committee for the luncheon they prepared to welcome Fr. Fredy. Thank you also for your generous support towards the Missionary Appeal for the Diocese of Kurnool in India. The collection will be sent to the diocese shortly.

Eucharistic Renewal & other important events: Our Pope appointed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle as his special envoy to the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis from July 17th to the 21st. Let us keep all the 63 diocesan participants from our diocese who are attending this event in our prayers. On July 28th we will be celebrating World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. After the 11am Mass we will have a felicitation at Mercy Hall. On August 14th, in Flemington our Diocese is partnering with Franciscan University to give us training on various parish ministries. Please call the parish for more details. On August 22nd, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC, will be commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 1st Mass held at the Shrine.

Bishop’s Appeal: My sincere thanks to all of you for supporting our Bishop’s annual appeal 2024. So far we have pledged $56,913 which is 73% of our goal ($78,000). Thank you for your generosity. I strongly encourage you to support our Bishop and all the people who are going to be benefitting from this appeal.

15º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

¡Querida familia!

Hay mucha presión sobre los jóvenes para que desarrollen una imagen de fe en sí mismos. La mayoría de sus amigos ya no van a la iglesia; sus padres están divorciados o no son católicos practicantes; Siempre hay deportes dominicales por la mañana (como contribuyente, no puedes cuestionar el sistema). Los jóvenes se ven obligados a crear sus propias excusas como “me duele la cabeza, me duele el cuerpo, tengo tarea” y cosas por el estilo. ¿Podemos culparlos completamente por su forma de pensar actual? Se preguntan: '¡Soy la única persona joven y la iglesia está llena con más de 50 personas! ¡Éste no es un lugar para mí!

A menudo me pregunto cuando la gente dice: "¡Dios lo llamó a servir!" A algunos les resulta difícil creer que Dios lo llamo. Si Dios pudiera llamar a Moisés ‘un asesino’ para ser uno de los más grandes profetas; si Dios pudiera llamar a David, ‘un monstruo egoísta’ para ser uno de los reyes más grandes de la Biblia; Si Dios pudo llamar a Saúl ‘un asesino celoso y vengativo’ para ser uno de los más grandes misioneros de la Iglesia Católica, no debes tener dudas de que estás llamado. Las lecturas de este domingo se centran en el llamado de Dios.

Es común dudar en responder al llamado de Dios: grandes personalidades de la Biblia y de la historia dudaron. Pero finalmente respondieron. ¡Estás llamado a construir la comunidad! ¿Cómo lo harías tú? ¿Qué significa cuando el Papa Francisco dijo: "Los pastores deben oler como las ovejas"? Huelo a mis ovejas al conocerlas, hablar y relacionarme con ellas, planificar y ejecutar el crecimiento colectivo como personas; fomentar en ellos una cultura de la vida.

¡Jóvenes! ¡Exige tiempo de Dios a tus padres! Tienes derecho de esto. Un padre que fomenta el tiempo dedicado a Dios para sus hijos actúa de manera integral. Estás llamado a ser discípulo (una persona que aprende) pero también estás llamado a ser apóstol (una persona que es enviada desde la iglesia a las personas con un mensaje de Dios). Y el mensaje es: tú.

Se ha nombrado a la Sra. Sara Siano como Directora de nuestra escuela: Después de mucha reflexión y discusión con los padres y el Consejo Asesor Escolar, nombro a la Sra. Sara Siano como la nueva directora de nuestra escuela. La Sra. Siano ha sido la subdirectora de nuestra escuela bajo la dirección de la Sra. Donna Kucinski. Agradezco a Sara por aceptar las responsabilidades de Directora a partir del 1 de agosto. Nuestro más sincero agradecimiento a la Sra. Patricia Bell por servir como nuestra directora hasta fin de mes y pasar a la siguiente etapa de su vida. Les deseamos a ambas lo mejor y oramos por ellos mientras asumen nuevas responsabilidades.

Agradezco a todos los voluntarios del Comité de Bienvenida por organizar este evento y dar la bienvenida al p. Fredy! Gracias a todos por su apoyo y oraciones para el al iniciar su ministerio en nuestra parroquia. Un agradecimiento especial a nuestro Comité Hispano por el almuerzo que prepararon para darle bienvenida al p. Fredy. Gracias también por su generoso apoyo a la Campaña Misionera para la Diócesis de Kurnool en India. La colecta será enviada a la diócesis en breve.

Renovación Eucarística y otros eventos importantes: Nuestro Papa nombró al Cardenal Luis Antonio Tagle como su enviado especial al Congreso Eucarístico Nacional en Indianápolis del 17 al 21 de julio. Mantengamos en oración a los 63 participantes diocesanos de nuestra diócesis que asistieran a este evento. El 28 de julio celebraremos el Día Mundial de los Abuelos y las Personas Mayores.
